All the commercials I hear on the radio or see on TV really piss me off. First off everyone has ups and downs in their lives, no matter what. So people who might just not be doing so well at the moment might go do a doctor, ask about a drug, and get prescribed something when they're really not depressed. In fact I think most anti-depressants don't even work that well and have bad side-effects, I don't know about you but I wouldn't want a foreign chemical in my brain. Not to mention placebos work about as well.

I admit some people are really messed up and do need certain drugs to level them out, but it's getting out of hand, the drug companies aren't out to help people anymore, they're out to make a profit.

Yes, I think that anti-depressants are way overprescribed. I think that medicine in general is overprescribed these days. I believe that there are lots of people that genuinely need anti-depressants and other kind of medicines, but not at the rate that we're prescribing them.

And yes I agree they are perscribed too often, mostly bec. America is all about poppping pills to solve any problem. I think some drugs don't even really do anything, people just believe they do so they feel better anyway. The "placebo effect".....

What you're asking is according to the person. People are individuals, with different issues and problems. Yes, some do not need to be given anything at all. Yet, those people are consulting with Doctors who have PhDs for this type of work. I went thru a postpartum and I still need two kinds of medicines to keep me balanced and enjoying life ! (Brooke Shields went thru the same thing and look at how the medicines has helped her.)
