Most insurers will provide some sort of insurance for you. However, they may not cover the condition for which you are on a waiting list for. Have a word with Worlwide Insure http://www.worldwideinsure.com/ who I first came across 10 years when backpacking.

I have used Direct Line and have found them really good, annual worldwide family insurance for 2 adults and 1 child cost approx £130.00, with pre medical cover.
