some cats are just aggressive like that. no matter how nice you are to it. try leaving them alone for a day or too and let it miss your attention. that may help it want it more. the last one i had was very aggressive and liked to be left alone

Our kitten is just over three months old, and she sometimes tries to gnaw on our fingers instead of just licking when she's "washing" us. I guess it's fairly normal behaviour. The problem is that kittens are expecting to be told off when they bite too hard; that's what their siblings and adult cats do. If you give no signal that s/he's going too far, s/he'll think you are okay with it, and will probably try to go further the next time, just to see where your limits are so s/he knows.

You need to show her when she goes too far. Cats hiss and bat away the kitten when it goes too far, and if the kitten won't listen, a bit more force is used until the kitten does listen. Mind you, force for a cat isn't really force for us.

When s/he bites you, try making a tchh-ing or hissing sound, while removing your hand from him/her. If s/he listens, that's good. If s/he doesn't, and tries to bite immediately when you start petting again, make the same noise, and push him/her away, and talk to him/her, saying that licking is okay, but biting isn't. Keep doing it whenever s/he tries to bite. You're likely to scare him/her, and s/he might run away, but it'll pass in a little while.

Of course, this isn't a fool proof method, and just because you set limits doesn't mean they won't be tested. The only thing to do is to be firm. Don't allow a little nibbling, because then it'll get harder next time, and s/he'll learn that biting can sometimes be okay.

S/he's still a kitten, and just like human children kittens learn about things by tasting them. And just like humans need time to learn that you don't try to eat everything, so does kittens. And just like you have to tell children no several times before they learn, so you have to do with kittens. But if you start teaching your kitten now that it's not okay to even nibble, then you probably won't have a cat later who thinks it's quite okay to bite people.

How old is your kitten? He could be teething.

Now, a few times my kitties started to get too rough while playing with me. I had to backtrack a bit and teach them that biting hard is not acceptable. I don't have that problem now.

Just like puppies, you have to train kittens not to bite. When it starts going after your hand, give it something it's allowed to bite and fight with, such as a stuffed animal or cat toy.

Have you been using your hand or fingers as a cat toy?
I have learned through painful experience never to do this as a cat will always treat your hand as a toy every time you go near it.
Hands should be used for petting ONLY!.

Sometimes it means that you're not rubbing the spot that he wants to have petted.
