The abomination that causes desolation, is when Antichrist declares himself God in the rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem.

I hope that answers your question. God Bless

I believe that teh abomination of desolation would be satan incarnate at the end of days and I am not sure if Daninel was talking aobut a specific holy place but at the end of days I would presume that we should seek a place of faith. Where the almighty God is truly worshipped with honor glory and from steadfast belief. It may even be a group of people gathering together in Christ/God's name. I looked this up in NIV study bible which gives no answers to your question. Good question though.
Praise God, for He is the Master of the Universe, and the only hope we have of eternal life!!

Lots of different opinions about the term "abomination of desolation"

Let me just offer one to you:

Philip Mauro was a very famous lawyer and well-versed Christian who lived in the first part of the 20th century. This is from his excellent book called "Seventy Weeks and the Great Tribulation."

I recommend it highly but other Christians disagree with his conclusions.

God bless!!!

Yes. It refers to the installation of a statue of Zeus in the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem by the Seleucid emperor Antiochus IV Epiphanes in the 2nd Century BCE. Read the first book of Maccabees.

The prophecy was fulfilled when the Temple was destroyed and replaced with a shrine to Jupiter in 70 CE.

1) The Antichrist.

2) The Holy of Holys (The Tabernacle) in the Jewish Temple.

I say this means when the temple was destroyed in 70 A.D. and it's already happened.

It should be called the abomination that causes desolation. The Bible list three separate occasions where the abomination of God's people has caused the desolation of the temple of God.

The first is when the nation of Israel apostasized by offering idols in the sanctuary and worshipped the sun god from the tabernacle. This national apostasy spoken of by the prophet Ezekial in chapter 8 caused the downfall of Jerusalem and the desolation of the temple by the armies of Babylon. National apostasy brought national ruin.

The second time, foretold by Christ, was when the nation of Israel rejected the Messiah and national apostasy ensued with the persecutions of the early Christian church. The desolation of the temple happened in AD 70 when the Roman armies, under Titus, destroyed Jerusalem and the temple. National apostasy brought national ruin.

The third time that the abomination of desolation is spoken of is in regards to God's law at end times. This time, it is not physical Israel's abominations that bring on the desolation, by spiritual Israel. Physical Israel has been replaced by the church consisting of Jews and Gentiles who believe in Christ (Matthew 21:43). The abomination done in the church and specifically as the church of Christ declares open hostility against the government of God by joining with the antichrist power to enforce man's law above God's law, the desolation predicted will be at hand. The church, in conjunction with the antichrist power, in response to global catastrophies, terrorists attacks and declining morality, will demand that every person receive the mark of the beast, sacrificing freedom for security. It will be taught that God is displeased with the declining morals of man, and like Sodom and Gomorrah, God will punish mankind unless they return to God. The resulting natural disasters and terrorist attacks will be seen as judgments coming from God (this has already been claimed as rationale for 911 and Hurricane Katrina by the religious right) This reasoning will appear conclusive and a movement to get back to God will appear to be the only way for peace to return to the world. The law will go into effect that to get back to God we must keep His 10 Commandment, including the 4th that commands Sabbath worship, a day set aside each week for God. Although God's Sabbath is on Saturday, the church with the antichrist power will claim Sunday as the day for God and all those who oppose will be persecuted because they will be seen as the cause of the troubles of the world. When the law of man including Sunday worship is made the law of the land in opposition to the law of God that dictates Saturday worship, the whole world will have to chose to follow God and His law, or man and his law. National apostasy, followed by worldwide apostasy will bring, first national ruin and then world wide destruction in the 7 last plagues before Jesus comes again. It will be shown that Sunday worship is the mark of the beast and Sabbath worship is the seal of God.

The holy place spoken of is the antichrist power standing in the place of Jesus our High Priest. The antichrist power usurps Christ's authority and tries to be God on earth. Christ is now ministering in the sanctuary in heaven above, our advocate before the father. The antichrist power tries to stand in the place of Christ, claiming the power to forgive sins and to be the Vicar of Christ on earth. In doing so, the abomination, (man of sin) is revealed. When the churches unite with this man of sin, they are giving validation to his usurpation of Christ's position. It is then that the union of church and state makes an image to the beast of Revelation 13 and the Sunday law goes into effect.
