Many things have become 'corny' or 'cheesy' in this country due to a number of factors: feminine liberation, the lack of civility, the scarce romantic conditioning in the home, the onslaught of sexual harassment suits and the dehumanizing of us all by the 'politically correct' overexposure by the mass media, to name a few!
Many of us still possess politeness, chivalry, respect, and the genuine desire to make the opposite sex feel good about themselves, and ourselves in the process.
The response of anyone who can see through the possible ulterior motives of such a compliment, should by all means, acknowledge the person making the comment and thank them from the heart for the wonderful intention of the well placed words.
If only more people had a clearer mentality and a softer heart, this world would be a whole lot different!

Would it have made a difference to how you feel if he had been ugly, smelt bad and wore an old potato sack?
I don't think romance has become cheesy (apart from the flowers, wine and chocolates thing perhaps), but I do think people are more appreciative of a compliment if it's from a desirable source.
If a good looking man came up to me and said I had nice eyes, I'd probably blush and say, "Thank you." :P

I'd say thanks but I'm not gay.
or was this an exclusive question. if you'd seen some of my other answers u would know i don't like to b left out sometimes! Can u please, please, please find a way to bring us blokes into it a little!
If I were a girl (boy this is hard - phew!) I might think scr*w it the chat up's corny but what the heck. Sometimes it's the ones with the perfect and cute chat up lines u have 2 watch out for. They may be sexual predators who r well practised. Sorry to get a little heavy but u said romance so i am guessing u r a little more than shallow!
This is hard too! If u set ur expectations too high, u will always be disappointed.
I hope u find ur Prince Valiant - if so, does he have a sister?
p.s. Have u???????

might be cheesy but what isnt?
i consider a note or asking for someones number just as cheesy.
complimenting shows what they like about you and they have the guts to say it. Being cheesy requires confidence.
just say 'thank you'.. best thing to do..
if it was a one time thing and you arent goin to see that person again you could compliment back if you really like, thats if you like him so much...
get into conversation, get his number, easily done.

I would turn to him, smile, give full eye contact (to let him know that I am giving him my full attention) then say a sincere "Thank you." Then follow the remark with "No one has ever told me that before." (even though they have.) In order to have some romance in your life, you can't be hostile to your potential opportunities.
Rock on. Great question

I wouldn't say romance is cheesy, but random 'romantic' comments are not usually widely welcomed. Romance implies some sort of relationship that is wanted and appreciated on both sides and someone coming up to me and saying something of that sort would not be romantic, nor would it be smooth and genteel. It'd just be...weird.

say thank you and smile, then go about my way. If he really wants to talk he'll find the way to get my attention again. If not then at least I got a nice compliment out of it.

look surprised and delighted and say thank you. Men always like to think that they have original chat up lines so don't make it look like you've heard this one before. As chat up lines go, that's a very good one and at least it is clean!

I still believe in romance. It's a lost art.
I would be appreciative of his compliment.
