You can give dogs kaopectate for diarhea, but if it doesn't stop in a couple of days, you should get him checked out. Make sure he drinks plenty of water so he doesn't get dehydrated.

Try cooking some rice with lean hamburger in it, the end result should be about 2/3 meat and 1/3 rice. (Use lean burger, no other fats, salts or seasonings). Give this to him instead of his regular food for a couple of days. This is really easy for dogs to digest and I use it for mine when they get upset tummies. If he starts acting sick, you might want to consider the vet.
Runny poops is often the result of a change in diet. Have you changed his food? Has he been getting people food? Is he getting canned food of a different flavor? Could other folks be giving him treats without your knowlege? Is there a catbox around he might be stealing and eating nuggies from? (Gross I know, but lots of dogs do it. They like cat food so much they don't mind if it's been "used")
Don't put off going to the vet if you think you might need to. It only costs about the price of a nice dinner out, your pet will thank you (after it's all over and you're back home from "the evil place") and you will have peace of mind.
Best wishes!

You might want to take him to the vet and have him checked for paracites. That is a common thing for dogs with runny feces. Also the vet can give you medication that will subside the diaheria and make your dog more comfortable. I would suggest taking him in as soon as possible considering it has gone on for a few days. Good Luck.

Dogs can have diarrhea for different reasons. He may have ate something that he shouldn't have, think Thanksgiving and or any type of meats that he may have had. With small dogs it doesn't take much to cause a major problem. The other thing is worms which can cause diarrhea among other things if they get abundant enough. The main thing to be worried about is dehydration and age. You should really go to the vet with stool sample in tow so that they can both get checked out. Hope this helps.

Don't try to clog him up with rice. In addition to him maybe having worms, there is also the chance that he has some kind of infection that needs to get out. Feed him dry food only and close your toilets and fill up his water bowls, so you know he is drinking water. PetSmart has something to replenish the electrolites (like they have for childrent pedialite) Sorry don't remember the name. Give him some of that. If you see stuff that looks like rice comming out of his but it is worms (stop feeding him rice, so you don't confuse the two). Hope Dauchsund gets better soon!

Is he eating, drinking, playing? Is he doing a lot of opposites such as not coming near you when normally u can't get away? These r a few things to consider. Also, have u changed his food lately? My vet says dry food is best - helps teeth and bowels. Do u give him table food? My dogs r indoor - when they go outside they eat the most unusual things.
One thing u can do is boil some chicken (boneless) and mix it with rice. DO NOT SEASON IT! This should help his digestion system and get things back to norm.
He needs lots of water too - prevent dehydration.
Another thing to consider - worms. This sounds gross, but have u noticed any parasites in stool / diarrhea?
Hope this helps a little.

Do not self medicate! Before you do anything, call the vet and tell them the symptoms. They might have you give Pepto or Kaopectate (they will tell you the amount, it's dispensed by weight), and maybe put your pooch on a bland diet of rice and boiled meat or cottage cheese.
Like the other responder said, it could lead to dehydration fast, that leads to an emergency. Give the vet a call today (now would be good) and explain the situation to them.

What do you do whilst your canines is ill..? TAKE IT TO THE VET. From what your say, "no longer eating, eating, torpid, and absence of bowl administration".. leads me to suspect parvo. Has your canines had its vaccinations? If no longer, this would be a solid hazard. in case you do no longer do something now, she will die from dehydration. A canines with parvo dies from dehydration until eventually now the rest. usually interior of a week of exhibiting indications. She desires medical care.. NOW.

What Lady 2 said. If this has been going on for several days, your dog has a problem.
Good luck.
