The sentence is different from the actual time they are in prison. My husband has been sentenced 2-7 years. He needs to do a minimum of 2 years in prison. Then he finishes his time up on Parole when he is eligible...so technically he could be eligible after the 2 years and be on Parole for 5 years.

Probation and parole are two different things. If he is violated on parole, he goes back to prison to finish up his time. If he was on probation, he could get sentenced to another 2-7 years and it's a vicious cycle.

Some states also have early release for "good behavior"...However in my state they do not. They discontinued it in 1980. Fortunately they are considering it again and only letting inmates with non-violent crimes be eligible with other stipulations.

The long sentence makes the D.A. and judge look like they are tough on crime come election time. The jails are full and the system needs more convictions,so we let a few out early and we can put more in. Kind of like the body count in Vietnam where they could kill every VC three times over.

My ex-fiance (he's an ex for a damn good reason) was sentenced to 240 days in a county correctional facility. He only served 2 months. He was released because of jail overcrowding. He was picked because he was deemed to be the least threatening to society.

He is still stressed out by the experience and has a lot of nightmares. I'd help him out since I'm pretty sure he's innocent of his charges, but cheaters get no sympathy from me.

Well look at it this way, instead of stressing you out they could always leave you in there for the full term so you don't get all fearfull for nothing. You know, you want to get your moneys worth.
