In case of fire do not use elevator as an exit, as the elevators disable with mass heat and are usually on an automatic shut down system for fires. Use the stairs!

i work for an elevator company, and it is a big issue, because elevators run with electricity. the chance of a fire breaking out in the motor room of the basement pit area is where the fire will start at. anyone in the elevator will get stuck in it or the elevator could fall down the shaftway of all the floors. i have seen many situations where the elevator got stuck because of an fire and it was hard for the firefighters to put it out without having the elevator fall down..

the sign dosnt mean use the elevator to put out the fire it means if there is a fire in the building dont ride the elevator because if the power goes off you will be stuck in the elevator and will burn with the building

Wait...Is this a trick question? I thought I was dumb! The signs say not to use the elevator because the fire could cause the electric to go out and you could be stuck inside the elevator and die.

Is this a serious question? I guess the sign should say...If there is a fire and you use this elevator and the power goes out, there is a good chance you are going to become a roasted and smoked pig.

It says you shouldn't use the elevator during a fire. Sometimes a fire can burn the cables and cause the elevator to fall. Or it can cause a malfunction to the motor.
