On a good day I feel more tolerant since exposing myself to the various beliefs. It has galvanized my own beliefs, that is what has been most beneficial.

Not really. I've spent many hours answering questions in R+S forum, enough to reach level 6 (without spamming). Still, I've been an atheist for over 20 years and have actively had discussions on forums like this one almost continually.

If you include all forums from the earliest dial-up BBS with a religious forum to the chat rooms to the Yahoo groups and Yahoo Answers R+S forum, then I would answer, yes. My viewpoints concerning the various religions have changed. They've been refined over 20 years of talking to people.

yeah. Got a real eye opening reading the answers of fellow Christians and have a much better understanding of how Christians by their actions and inactions have caused people nopt to want to have anything to do with Christianity. I have also seen a strong witness put out ones like snuggles and debra who I only wish I could be as positive and loving as.

Learned a lot about Muslims too, and started reading theQur'an.

Have witnessed an organized effort by ones who from what they say are obviously not Christians doing their best to stirr up Christians against Muslims. I assume they are part of some kind of merchant based group bent on making a profit off of war.

Also learned the differances between Suni's and Sheites, and that the Zionests are not actually the Jewish people of old, and probably way more, so all in all profitable for me.

My views have changed drastically. I came into R&S as a fundamental Christian. In reading and answering questions I have learned a lot in the way of tolerance. I have learned that other religions (plus atheism and agnosticism) have points that are just as valid as my Christian beliefs. I have learned to view the Bible in a light that makes more sense regarding the world around me. All in all, I have come to the point where I find that life is a puzzle and many different beliefs have pieces of the truth...not just my own religion. Not bad for an ex-fundie, eh?

It's sometimes hard to learn any real information because sometimes people can say pretty stupid things or use verses from the bible out of it's intent. But besides that, I have learned a lot about the way various people think. I have learned that there is a lot of hatred and self-righteousness involved in comparing everyone's religion, but at the same time there is room for (some)learning.

Changed? Not for the most part. I am remembering one of the reasons I started to move away from Christianity though.

I have realized for a long time that intolerance can be found in any spiritual path, R&S has however given me a window through which I can see some of it in a more close up way.

I grew up in the church but changed my beliefs over the last few years. I always thought Christians were just as intelligent as anyone else, and are loving and caring. However after coming here I see that the majority of them are not loving and caring, and that the majority choose to ignore logic. It is really turning me against christians.

But I read comments from people like Father K above, which remind me that there are bad seeds everywhere, and I should not turn against christians simply because of the bad seeds.

Yes, but frankly it did not have to do with the R&S forum. It had everything to do with reading Karen Armstrong's A History of God and the works of Joseph Campbell. I find both these people are very insightful.

no my views have not changed but I was very shocked for the first couple of days that so much hatred, anger and worst of all the filth and slurs that appear regularly, I thought at first that R&S was a medium to assist and help others and share faith experiences, I never imagined that it was more like a rundown city bar where everything and anything goes.

A fascinating question, and fascinating answers. Personally, my views have not changed significantly -- they were formed by decades of study long before YQ&A came around.
