Yes. Bone is being made in lab rats by use of cloning. It will be many years before released for human use (if ever). They can make new teeth too - in rats of course. Baby human teeth have been cloned, but are not allowed to be placed in a human yet.

What would bone grafts be replaced with? You should probably be talking to your dentist, oral surgeon or maxillofacial surgeon.

Note to "bmac": A graft is a graft whether it's autodonated, bovine or synthetic. This person is asking about procedures that are used INSTEAD of bone grafting.

Only certain bone defects can be repaired with normal bone graft material (bovine, synthetic, etc). To repair more extensive bone loss, a surgeon can harvest bone from the hip, rib, or chin and place on jaw to increase bone height.

Yes. They are using bovine to replace the bone. Yes, bovine as in cow bone. It works really well and has a very low incidence of rejection. Most oral surgeons use this. There is a lot of info on this (and other uses for bovine bone) on the Internet. Check it out.
