There is a 100% turnover every 20 years.

Is that really a question? It's probably one of the most dangerous jobs, with terrible working conditions and bad pay. Plus when you factor in the completely pointless war that the government has got us into and it seems like a pretty bad deal.

There is no 100% turnover every 20 years. 20 years is the normal retirement for career personnel but there are those who stay in longer.

Not only are you quoting misleading statistics but your statistics aren't even correct.

(There is no 90% turnover every 4 years, either. It is mathematically impossible as anyone with an IQ above breadcrumbs and a sixth grade education could see).

Your numbers are way off. Check out these figures from 2004. The latest year I could find in a few short seconds of searching.

Navy re-enlistment rates are at an all time high, with 62.3 percent of first-term sailors signing up for additional service. That compares with a targeted goal of 56 percent. The rate has grown each year since 2000, when 48.2 percent of the first-term sailors re-enlisted.

For those with six to 10 years of service, the Navy re-enlisted 74.1 percent; its goal had been 70 percent. For those with 10 to 14 years of service, 88.7 percent re-enlisted so far this year; the goal was 85 percent.

Like the Army, the Marine Corps has been in the thick of combat in Iraq, yet the Marines have exceeded their monthly recruiting goal every month for the past 106 consecutive months, or for nearly nine consecutive years.

Chief Petty Officer John Hoesli, who heads the Coast Guard's recruiting station in Chesapeake, responsible for recruiting from Williamsburg to Cape Hatteras, has never seen recruiting so good. His office has been the most productive in the past four years and was named the best throughout the Coast Guard in 2001.

"Whether it's patriotism, or defending the nation by keeping the fight here and keeping terrorism out of here that draws people, I don't know," Hoesli said

gee 90% turnover, yes that is believable, Do you realize that everyone cannot re-enlist even if they want to? There are only so many Jobs at the top, everyone cannot be a First Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, or even a Section Sergeant, and if you don't move up you cannot stay in....The military is not a civilian factory job, you can't do the same thing for 20 years, up or out, only the very best stay after their first enlistments......

Where's your facts?? Where's your source?? Once again, you can't provide any of this. All you do is try to cause trouble and promote your cause. We really don't care if you like the military or not. We really don't care if you support the war or not. Your idiotic statements prove just what a sore loser you really are.

It's clear your numbers are wrong. We don't know anyone in his past 2 units that didn't re-enlist when it was their time. These are both units that deployed. Re-enlistments are at high right now. Sure there's many who don't re-enlist, but it's always been that way. They join for many different reasons. Some just find out it's not the life for them. They joined and that's respectful enough. Just because you couldn't cut it, doesn't mean that everyone is like you.

He's pulling numbers out of his ***.

Fact is, reenlistment is up almost 85% Service Wide. We have made mission every year except two in the last ten and Soldiers are proud to serve.

This guy just hates the fact that Soldiers even exsist. Don't waste your time with him...

I dont believe your figures to be true, but Ill give you my answer anyway.People join the military for different reasons. For some they need help with paying for college, for others its a way to get out of a bad situation, for some its purely love for the country and they feel its their way of giving back to the country. After a person joins, some find that the nomadic way of life isnt for them, or they physically not cut out for it, or being away from a family is too hard so they get out when they are able to. But trust me people leaving are definately replaced daily. Basic training units are full to the brim and for some job specialties there are waiting lists and they are held over.

YEAH RKO!
A 2 or 4 year service record is plenty. How can folks LEAVE today? Even the National Guard folks are havig heebie jeebies: most signed up because it was the safest one weekend a month way to earn an easy retirement pay.

Now they're all having second thoughts!!! The army is "re-enlisting" them to go to a place that is out of control. Most of our wars were out of control. Vietnam was. Lost lots of potential husband material; and what came back often had combat problems...why would you want to burn death, maiming, and dying into his/her brain?

Because it's finally evident that the Bush administration has conned the American people, the U.S. Congress, and our military troops. They've finally figured out that this 'war' is all about OIL PROFITS for a handful of wealthy elitists, huge corporations, and corrupt politicians.
Why would they want to continue risking their lives for such banal pursuits? -RKO-

probably because here recently they are being deployed every 15 mths. yes being in the military means possibility of deploying but give me a break. they keep sending the same ones over and over.
