"Presumed" to be illegal? So what are you going to do, harass all of the brown people you see and hope that eventually you find an illegal one? I seriously wish I could be there to videotape when someone smacks you in the mouth.

Not one single person in my family is anything other than American, for generations, and yet I've been carrying a copy of my birth certificate with me for the past 5 years because of all the f*cking idiots like you who have decided to make of point of jumping in my face and asking me where I'm from. Apparently, I somehow am "different-looking". Everyone is always shocked when I tell them that I am from New Hampshire. If you refuse to grow up and get your facts straight, the rest of us Americans are perfectly within our legal rights to beat the crap out of you for "harassment".

Well that depends on your definition of "harassment."
Asking for immigration status or some proof of ID at certain times, no this is not harassment(and state policy will vary on such matters). Threatening to call INS on someone because they won't have sex with you or work extra hours, that is illegal.
I've noticed "harassment" in the pro-illegal POV is anything that could result in the deportation of the illegal in question. Since when are you so concerned with the "legality" of anything anyway?

There might want to correctly be quite a few diverse causes: a million) They themselves at one time were unlawful immigrants. So, they have first-hand journey as to the struggles of immigrants and favor to be sure their fellow "countrymen" make something of their lives as they were ultimately able to. 2) they have acquaintances or relations that are unlawful immigrants. 3) they're humanitarians/ activists. Edit: isn't it exciting? some human beings have this kind of solid hatred for immigrants, that they're going to truly supply a "thumbs down" only for answering a question immediately - no matter if there's no opinion in it both way and it in straight forward words states some accessible solutions to the question.

Could be a civil violation technically. To do this to a legal, law abiding immigrant ...isn't the American way. Accidents do happen though.
Those accidents happen many times (recently) due to the inconsideration of those that come here illegally. Yet one more reason that illegal iimmigration is intolerable. One more reason illegal immigration denegrates America, it's system of higher values and those that wish to live in quiet peace and enjoyment.

Illegals go home and come here legally; through the correct process.

Yes it is....Its a violation of human rights.....During the Nixon administration, he made it a crime to hurt illegal immigrants coming into the US.....During his administration, on the border, many illegals coming into the country were getting harassed and physically attacked by locals patrolling the borders, laws were made to protect such immigrants from being physically harmed.....

any form of harrassment is illigal, if you ask them to stop and leave you alone and they dont you can file harrassment, it doesnt have to be physical to be illigal, if you are harmed emotionally or if you feel threatened then just talk to the police, they will probably leave you alone with a warning from the police, but if it persists, file for harrassment

Anyone in this country is afforded the same legal rights as anyone else by the constitution. So whatever your local harassment laws are - they apply to illegals as well. Even though I'd like to see them shipped outta here...

what do you mean "harass", employers are required to have SS numbers as well as 1 other document that you are legal. In some places these are required to rent an apartment or home. In these cases it is the law, so it depends on the situation.

It isn't illegal to ASK.

"Harrass" is a legal term of art. No, it isn't ok to harrass.
