it's probably because they are the rude ones that have an oversized carryon and want to take up all of the overhead space. those people really bug me. seriously...do you need to carry your entire life on board with you? a small pack and your purse will do just fine.

Many frequent flyers (including myself) call them GATE LICE.

They're the ones who line up when preboarding is called, thereby block the walkway to the gate. I get POed because I have to run this gauntlet of gawkers who have "Group 6" on their boarding passes. Also, those who get in line anyway like they'll be allowed to board slow down the process as well.

I say, GET OUT OF THE WAY!

But yes, for some it's for overhead bin space. Good thing I get to board before almost everyone. If I don't need bin space, then I'm the last to board.

Mainly because people want to ensure their overhead space doesn't get taken up. Also, in economy class, sometimes it's a pain in the *** having to wait for other people to finish getting to their seats and it's like a traffic jam once you're in the airplane, some people just like to get in there early.

I think the main reason is so they can get in and put their carry-ons in the overhead bins without having to mess with moving someone else's carry-on items. They figure if they get in early they'll get their stuff in a bin near their seat so they won't have to put it somewhere out of reach or check it with the rest of the baggage.

Dont tell anyone, but my husband is one of those guys. He always worries about getting a place in the overhead bin for his carryon. I tell him its a jerky thing to do.
