My 3 1/2 year-old has thrush! I've heard of this condition in babies, but not in toddlers. Has anyone had a toddler with thrush before? I'd like suggestions on how to make my son comfortable and help with the pain. Thank you!

It's more common then you think! Is he using a sippy cup or pacifier still? (if not, you'd be surprised how many do.) That could be where he got it. If he uses 'em, boil 'em on day two of the medicine and again at the end.
Try a little tylenol or something like that for the pain, cold stuff like ice pops and ice cream are soothing. Stay away from salty stuff, citrus juices, and spicy food - all can aggravate the pain.

The very same thing happened to me when i took my wee girl to toddler groups............... The mother just sat there yapping while her daughter was pulling and tugging and being a little brat and my daughter didn't know what to do and got upset !!! I too told the wee girl to stop it and it was not nice. I ended up not wanting to go back because i seemed to be the only one bothered about my childs behaviour. I know kids fight and do those kind of things but it's the parents responsibility to keep an eye on them and teach them right from wrong. I just waited and put her into a pre-school nursery when she was two for a couple of hours twice a week. I just couldn't deal with watching my daughter upset and now i don't have to because she's in a supervised enviroment that doesn't tollerate that kind of behaviour. It's a bit costly but well worth the money.

I got this a couple of times from a baby in my nursery. A home remedy is a fill a teaspoon with half apple cider vinegar and half sugar. gulp the yucky stuff down every 3 hours and in two days thrush is just about gone. and for those that pan home remedies, this has been around long before antibiotics. Cranberry juice pops (homemade in the freezer, and the more cranberry in the bottled juice mix the better), and yogurt help prevent problems from antibiotics. (diahrrea, especially) some cultures use vinegar, I also use a recipe with hot peppers! what counts is they work!

I'm surprised the doctor didn't give you drops to put on your child's tongue...thats what mine was prescribed. Its a quicker way to the source of the problem I guess you could say. Regular children's motrin or tylenol will help ease the pain and a fever if he even has one from the infection. No advil or ibeuprofins. Why do people think that thrush comes from nipples and such? It is a yeast infection in the mouth....

My daughter got thrush and we went to the nutritional store and they had a mouth wash for thrush. It curred it within a couple of days without the hectic doctor appointment. If he can swish it in his mouth that would be great my daughter was younger and we saturated a cotton ball.

My nephew had thrush and his parents gave him popsicles to eat...pretty much as much as he wanted. The cold helped the pain and at least he was eating something! Good luck.

my daughter had it 2 weeks ago it went around her pre school class. she is 4.
My dr told me to give her sotf foods she really didnt have to chew sense it was all over her mouth.
I gave her ice cream to numb her mouth with the pain, the chicken soup in the box things like that it should clear up in about 3-5 days to the point where it dont hurt and they can eat again.
