What do you mean by swearing? Are you talking about bad words like the F-Bomb and S-Bomb? Or are you talking about taken the lords name in vain.
Using the F-bomb and other word like it, the bible does not say you should not use that word per say but it does say "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." Ephesians 4:29
As for using the LORD name in vain then Just read the ten commandments.

I dont believe swearing is a sin. Using the Lord's name in vein is most definately a sin, but I do not believe that using words considered at this time to be "bad" constitutes a sin. Just think of words we use commonly now that were once considered unspeakable.

I think when the Bible refers to swearing or cursing, it is in reference to swearing to God, or cursing God. The bible says you do not need to swear in God's name or on the earth or anything below. Your word is good enough. Or cursing and wishing bad upon someone else. Swear words are all man made nasty remarks. Which in itself may not be a good thing to talk nasty, but I do not think you will be condemed to the firey wraths of hell for saying naughty words.

In Matthew 5:33ff, Jesus advises against swearing in the sense of oath-making, not decause it is disrespectful but because it is meaningless. Swearing BY something you can't control is a dishonest attempt to make your promise sound more solemn and important than it really is. His advice? Say "yes" or "no". That's all you need.
As for the occasional exclamation involving God's name, it's technically swearing but in a meaningless way. You don't actually intend for Jesus to back you up in your disapproval of the situation. It's an annoying habit but it's trivial, merely a way for small-minded guilt-exploiters to get a hold on you.
The bigger violations of the "God's name in vain" commandment are the people who tell you "God wants you on my side," "Let's win this game for Jesus," and "Kill the enemy for Christ." These guys are the dangerous ones, yet they so seldom get called to account for their presumption.
Watch your language, not to police for inadvertent "offenses" against God, but to make sure you're really communicating, not just using words as blunt instruments.

Jesus said ` do not swear by Heaven or Earth, but let your Yes be Yes and your No be No`,
when we use God or anything sacred to back up a statement, like I swear to God for example this can be used to validate a lie on our behalf and Jesus said not to do this as it offends God,also swearing means to wish harm to someone like`I hope you go to Hell` for example and this is cursing the person.
the `F` word is not an actual curse or the scriptural swearing as such but the degradation of civil talk and no true Christian should make a habit of this.

Who cares what some yokels from thousands of years ago called a sin? You have a brain. Use it. I'm sure you can figure out for yourself the pros and cons of using certain words in certain situations. Personally, I don't put that much weight into the goodness or badness of specific words. What you say with the words is much more important than which words you use. I could give someone a compliment using "swear words" and say the most vile things with a 1st grade vocabulary.

I don't have a Bible available but Paul says to stop "Coarse jesting and bad words".I think it's Collosians.I have the same deal.It's tough to break.Especially when someone cuts you off in traffic.
