Fiberboard has finer fibers than preswood. Both would work for a garagae if installed correctly. Both products can not standup to moisture without a sealer of some sort on them. They are also limited by they amount of weight they can hold so some thought will have to go into the design of the cupboards.

The first answer by "riytwae" is the correct answer. With my past experience, I would not use either for garage shelving or storage. They both are horrible for holding weight and absorbing moisture. Save yourself money in the long run and use a pine or some other type hard wood. The old saying goes....."You get what you pay for".

Presboard or particleboard is made of tiny little particles & when it gets damp or wet, swells up twice it size, not recomended for damp places.
Wafforboard or fiberboard is made up of large chunks of wood that are formed into sheets with a more water proof glue & are more suitible for damp areas.
