My mom just got and then had to get rid of her Shiba Inu puppy, Jade, because she is almost violently allergic (which is weird, because she was never allergic to dogs before). She called up like 3 doctors and they all said that because her allergies are so bad (it was in her lungs and she couldn't breathe), that the shots wouldn't be worth it because there is only a 50/50 chance of them working at all. She's really heartbroken over this and I was wondering if anybody who got them or knows someone who got the shots could tell me if the work, or work more often then not, or something. Thanks!

When i was Young i was soo allergic to every thing. hamsters horses dogs cats even grass. when ever i got even near any of them my eyes would water and i would start sneezing.Allergy shots helped me sooo much i really haven't had any problems, but my mom also had the same problem and the shots didn't work for her.

when i was 8 years old i started getting an allergy shot 1 time a week. when i was 9 years old i got a shot 1 every 2 weeks. and so on now i don't have to get them anymore

so i guess it just depends on the person. i would get them and if they don't work them don't get them any more. what do you have to loose

i know have a dog and no problems, im not allergic to her at all.

i hope thats helps i little bit =]

This is a complicated question.

There are different ways the body handles allergies, and if she is that symptomatic with the dog, chances are that taking an "allergy shot" wont do much for her. Basically, the shot represses the immune response and would put your mother at a greater risk for other kinds of potential immunological insults - meaning she may be able to get sick easier.

Therapies like this are best used for people with autoimmune type diseases and shouldn't be used for something as "trivial" as tolerating pets.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but thems the breaks.

Ryan

I used the shots for 2 years then went off of them. I didnt think they were working but then after i went off i noticed how much worse i was. I think that they just work so gradually that you dont notice. Also, i think for some people they work for some things but not others. Like, i am no longer allergic to dogs, but i am just as allergic as i was before the shots with cats.

relies upon on the VET. i'd additionally be conversing approximately it somewhat extra with my Vet, From what I understand an hypersensitive reaction shot here & there is not any longer undesirable, yet extensive-unfold hypersensitive reaction photos are risky & they actually take years faraway from the canines.
