normal tv use a light in the back to make picture. It's big, the picture is not sharp and heavy!!! LCD means liquid crystal display, LCD TV gives you nice and sharp picture, the screen is flat and thin. If you're going to buy a LCD TV, go with the one that has projection and HDTV. It gives better quality.

When you say normal, I am assuming you mean the old-style tube TV's?

There is a huge difference.

1. Normal TV's output approximately 480 horizontal lines. LCD tv's can output up to 1080 lines...depending on what type of LCD TV you are looking at.

2. Normal TV's cannot display or support HD programming. LCD TV's can support HD programming and progressive signals.

3. Due to the LCD technology, you are going to get a sharper image, better colors and realistic picture.

4. LCD's are lighter and have a smaller footprint.

5. LCD TV's are going to cost significantly more than tube TV's, but it is well worth the price if you watch alot of TV.

6. Tube TV's go up to 36". LCD TV's go beyond 40".

7. Normal TV's are analog. LCD TV's are digital. Digital means less distortion and noise in the picture.

There are alot more differences but I hit the key points.

Regular TV uses cathode ray tubes to produce the picture. The cathode ray tube (CRT), invented by German physicist Karl Ferdinand Braun in 1897, is the display device that was long used in most computer displays, video monitors, televisions, radar displays and oscilloscopes. The CRT developed from Philo Farnsworth's work was used in all television sets until the late 20th century and the advent of plasma screens, LCD TVs, DLP, OLED displays, and other technologies. As a result of CRT technology, television continues to be referred to as "the tube" well into the 21st century, even when referring to non-CRT sets.

A cathode ray tube technically refers to any electronic vacuum tube employing a focused beam of electrons. This article will concentrate on the families of cathode ray tubes used as displays for television, radar, oscilloscopes etc. Another important type of cathode ray tube is the video camera tube.

LCD TVs use a liquid crystal display (LCD) a thin, flat display device made up of any number of color or monochrome pixels arrayed in front of a light source or reflector. It is prized by engineers because it uses very small amounts of electric power, and is therefore suitable for use in battery-powered electronic devices.

A plasma screen is an array of cells or pixels, each composed of three subcells that produce colored light (red, green, and blue). Electricity excites the gas in the cells, causing them to glow and produce the images you see on the screen. Plasma technology allows TVs to be quite thin and wall-mountable, compared to cathode ray tube (CRT) displays. Plasma TVs limit distortion around the screen edges, are brighter than liquid crystal displays (LCDs), permit a wide viewing angle (up to 160 degrees), and are not affected by magnetic fields. One disadvantage of plasma TVs is their susceptibility to image retention.
An LCD (liquid crystal display) is composed of a liquid crystal solution placed between two sheets of transparent polarizing material. When electrified, the crystals align to block light shining through the screen and cause colored images to be shown on the display. LCD TVs are thin and lightweight and can be mounted on a wall, have high brightness, but have a smaller viewing angle than plasma displays.
What is the difference between flat panel and flat screen?
Flat panel refers to displays whose case and screen are flat. For example, they are essentially shaped much like a large book, turned on its long side. Nearly all modern flat-panel displays use LCD technologies.
Flat screen displays are basically the same as the CRT (cathode ray tube) displays you usually see with desktop PCs, but with the glass screen being perfectly flat. Most CRTs have a slightly curved glass display.
