I need a simple, easy recipe to cook/bake fish. I hate fish and hate the taste but I am trying to eat a little of it here and there for health reasons. Any recipes out there that make it taste better or at least make it tolerable to choke down? Thanks!

You are in luck. I used to feel the same way. Now I love it. And this recipe will work with any syle of fish. It also makes it near impossible to screw up

I buy frozen bags of fish from my grocer, Haddock, catfish, tilapia. All are good to me and each will work if cooked as follows,

Warm oven to 375

Place a piece of foil over a cookie sheet. Set one piece of fish on the foil. Now you simply add the veggetables or spices you want as part of your fish dish (HA HA)

I usually add a tab of butter. Garlic, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, onions etc, etc.

I also spice it heavily with Jerk Seasoning, or cajun spice, garlic powder .

The best part of cooking fish this way is that everyone can prepare their own foil pack.

Once the ingredients are added wrap the foil as if you were cooking a baked potatoe. Sometimes the foil tears and it requires another piece.

I the use a marker and put everyones name on their meal.

Put in the oven for one hour at 375.

I hope you have as much fun with this one as we do.

first - i like freshwater fish because they seem to have less of that fishy smell or taste. Trout, bass are really good and hold up well when cooking.

I got this recipe from a fishing guide and it is the bomb. Get some stuffing mix (stovetop) and mix with twice the water the recipe asks for. Use some herb flavored stuffing. Then lay stuffing in a plan and surround the fish filet with the stuffing on the sides and bottom (hope that makes sense). Basically, make a boat to lay the fish in.

Then bake for 30 minutes at the temp the stuffing recipe calls for. As the fish bakes, it absorbs the extra water and herbs/spices from the stuffing and comes out real tender and full of flavor. Add a little salt and voila.

It's great that you want your children to be able t make up their own mind about food so good on you! I think that boil in the bag should only really be given to adults or older children because you want to give your little ones all the vitamins they can possibly get. I don't think there's anyway to get rid of the smell when cooking fish so you may just have to put up with it :s You could try baking the fish in the oven by wrapping it in tin foil with a little seasoning that way it steams and cooks in it's own juices and nothing is lost. The best advice I can give regarding the smell is to try a good odour neutralising air freshener and to keep up the good work - your children will grow up eating a wide variety of foods and you will know that if they don't like something then it's down to their own dislikes and not yours :D

These are good answers, however one question I have for you is where are you obtaining your fish? Are you catching or buying? If you are catching...then you're getting fresh fish. If, on the other hand, you are buying your meal, then you should only shop at a reputable fish market. The fish "mongers" will gladly let you know the attributes of each species along with telling you various ways to plate them. Enjoy your quest & eat FRESH.

I would try salmon. A lot of people who don't really like fish seem to be ok with salmon. Or how about a tuna salad sandwich, or a tuna melt? The mayo makes it taste a lot milder.

I'd start with a salmon steak - marinate it in freshly sqeezed grapefruit juice for about a 1/2 hour, then bake in the oven at 350 for about 20 mintes - very tasty!

Bake it with lemon-pepper seasoning. Befor you eat it, squirt the juice of a slice of a real lemon on it. Some fish you just cant get rid of that muddy, fishy taste. Good luck.
