Shouldn't we also be thanking him for all the crappy stuff too?

When was the last time you gave thanks for AIDS, earthquakes, John Madden, famine, influenza, deadly allergies, miscarriages, cancer, tsunamis, the plague, floods, Kent Hovind, or small pox???

Because that would make the Christian religion even more impractical.

However, go to any church and ask the same question, and the answer will invariably be "its all part of gods plan."

Pretty crappy plan if you ask me.

God gets thanked for all the good stuff, true. But I've seen more often then naught, "Hey this bad thing happened. If God is so good, why would He let this happen?" It really annoys me when my pagan friends ask me this (and it's never in a "i wanna know, honestly" voice, it's always in that "see, i'm better then you" smug voice, usually followed by a smirk (see if I cook for that one ever again)). I usually answer, "Why didn't (insert that person's diety of choice) do something about it?"

You gotta take the bitter with the sweet.

The Bible says that we should be thankful for all things. I hated the early untimely death of my mother from cancer and I found it hard to be thankful for this. I don't propose as some do, to be able to think with Gods mind. The one He has given me works well within its limits, but will never reach the level of Gods intelligence. His reasons and His plans, may require that some suffer and die. I am not worthy of being His judge. I will praise Him regardless of what happens.

Its easy to thank god when you live in a first world country. Funny how those in america that thank god for the good things in their lives conveniently ignore the things that are going on sudan, malawi, and iraq.

I know many people who *are* thankful for the "bad stuff" ... they view it as the karma they must burn and realize life on this plane of existence is not all about "good".

You are right. I thank God whenever I feel sick. If it wasn't for being sick I wouldn't appreciate the times I am not sick. Thank you God for this low paying job I currently have.
