My sister is having a baby and is interested in stem cell collection at the birth. I'm having trouble finding info as to whether its legal in Ireland (republic) and any companies which offer the service?

I know that a judge in Ireland recently declared that stem cell did not conflict with the statutes in the Irish consitution to do with the right to life. But think the church is going to mount an appeal.

It things like this that make pleased that I was born in the UK. I will be able to have stem cell in the future...help me walk properly etc...

There are research institutes in the UK, like the one at Edinburgh University who would be pleased to hear from you.

If your sister is thinking of giving cells from the umblical cord to be used to help people like me. God bless her!! That is the actions of a true Christian - more than what I can say for your church!!

I wish her all the best for the birth of the baby!
