I was just noticing this, and though I myself don't believe in god this caught my eye.

oh no I acknowledge that I don't believe in god. But I don't obsessively ask questions i merely asked this question because one of my friends obsessively talks about it. And even though I don't beleve in god I do believe that there is a higher order its just that our brains are to small to process the full concept and idea

The same reason people who say they believe in god without a doubt obsessively come up with an answer for every question. Because they are mostly trying to convince themselves.

Well, I dont believe in God and I dont obsessively ask questions about him.

People that feel the need to obsessively ask questions probably haven't truly made up their mind about whether or not they believe.

It could also be that they just like to argue about religion with other people that do believe. A lot of people do that.

Maybe it's just a search for knowledge in the area, trying to understand what it is that makes so many OTHER people believe in something that YOU yourself do not believe.

Most people who are interested in the God arguments are still seeking Him. There is no other reasonable explanation for their interest. I think often they are waiting for a sign or something so that they can truly believe as well. It rarely happens that for them, and they are likely to be disappointed. All the evidence exist, it is only a matter of how someone processes the data.

i dont believe in god but ill ask a question if some one is saying something that needs explaining...however usually the more people open their mouth about god the more hideous it sounds so usually i dont want to even know...you can take some one who seems so intelligent and smart but then when they speak of god im just like oh your an idiot if you can really believe that sh!t...anyway i havent noticed obsessive question asking myself...im sure its a need for understanding

Because people are obsessed with being right (religious and non-religious). We are addicted to it and use places like this to feed that addiction.

I wonder how many people from either camp has ever been swayed by any argument from anyone to change their beliefs from posting questions on Yahoo Answers? My guess would be pretty close to zero.

So why do it? What's the point?

As long as Christianity, as well as several of the other "ultimate truths", have as their end and gleefully sought after goal, the END OF THE WORLD, and as long as they believe that their rights are being violated if they are denied the opportunity to use the coercive power of the state to shove their god down every ones throat, they will have to put up with us being in their face. Why should we abandon a forum where we can let them know that they will not be allowed to carry out the silly "End Times" rubbish that they seem to forget would include the rest of us.

Because unlike some certain people on here, we want to learn MORE about WHY they believe the way they do. It opens the doors to intelligent conversations and debates.

It also keeps people from saying, "don't make comments about things you don't know about." We can then say, "Ah, but we do!"

Just because we don't believe, doesn't mean we don't want to learn more about other people's beliefs. We don't shut out the world because we don't agree with them.

We want to learn more about everything as to gain a better understanding and respect for it.

To point out errors & contradictions Christians may not be aware of. Christianity needs to be toned down...How else did the phrase 'In God We Trust' get on our currency? (BTW, it was added in the 1950's) Same with pledging 'Under God'. There is the mention in the Constitution but it also states we are 'a MORE PERFECT union' (grammatically incorrect) and calls for the seperation of church & state. Sometimes, ppl need to have something pointed out to them.

Some want to understand what the Christians believe. Others like picking on them or challenging their beliefs. In the end, it all makes for interesting conversation.

most people who don't believe in God got to that place by asking questions about God. I guess they still have a genuinely caring attitude toward others and wish the same road for them, so they try to spurn the God believers on the same road by the same questions they asked themselves.
