I would say go with the treadmill. You get more exercises out of it, like walking running you can add inclines and there are so many other programs you can't do with the elliptical. I hated my elliptical it got really boring really fast so I traded it in on a new treadmill. I will use the elliptical at the gym but I get more benefits from having the treadmill in my home.

Like one of your answers stated the elliptical machine will work the best. You will lose calories quicker and it will put less stress on the body. You can do more with the elliptical machine than a treadmill. And again make sure you are eating healthy. Just remember your metabolism speeds up when you eat more small meals/snacks a day. When I say meals and snacks I am talking about healthy foods, i.e. granola, fruits, vegatables, yogurts...
You speed your metabolism up you will loose weight and keep weight off.

you want an ellipical, because you get a more range of motion and more range of motion means you are burning more calories. also an ellipical is a lot easier on your joints, because when you run you are putting a lot of pressure on your knees and ankles, with an ellipical you are not putting the power and weight of your body on your joints which will make them sore, go with an ellipical all the way...hope that helps

A treadmill is fine but most people seem to continue to use an elliptical more regulary,it is easy on the joints, keeps ones stride and feet in proper position and coorects improper gait. Find a good model and try it out first. The best is one without arm movement so you can adjust ramp or stride length and change resistance.Stay off the balls of the feet and challenge yourself ,start out slow and build each week.
at least that is my experience as a trainer for more years than I care to count!!!!!!!!!!

It also depends what your training goals are.
Do you want to stay in shape or are you training for a particular sport? If your just trying to stay in shape, I would recommend an elliptical--it's low impact on your knees and joints as compared to running on a treadmill and you can still reach your target heart rate on an elliptical just as easily as you can with a treadmill. You can find our recommended ellipticals and treadmills at www.engineeringfitness.com under 'Holiday Gift Ideas'.

Elliptical machines tend to cause less stress on the body and give you a better range of motion & programming. Given a choice, I would go that way.
Remember, cardio alone is not enough. Diet, strength training and variety to your workouts are extremely important!

I'd suggest that you buy an elliptical. You'll burn a lot more calories in shorter amount of time. But don't forget to change your diet up as well. Good luck!!
