Cat starts meowing at 3am everyday. If wife not home their is no problem. We tried feeding him, he would eat, then start meowing again, we tried spray bottle, he just goes further in distance and meows louder. We close the door to the bedroom, he bangs on the door with his body. It seems that he just wants my wife up every morning. How can I break this habbit of his, the cage just becomes more of a problem. He is de-clawed front and back, so can't put outside. He has never been outside since birth, except for balcony.

Because the cat was rewarded for waking you up by being fed. It will take a while for the cat to learn that this won't work any more. I made a point of not feeding my cat first thing in the morning. She doesn't get fed until at least half an hour after we get up. I can leave her loose in the house and she doesn't come around and wake us up. But if the kids leave their doors open sometimes she will enter their rooms which might awaken them, but she isn't meowing at them.

Your wife probably petted the cat onw night at 3am so the cat wants some love every night now. Yes, it is a habit and it must be broken, by your wife. She is the one who must get it across to the cat that this will not be a daily ritual. Cats do spoil easily. Good luck.

my cats do the same exact thing. They are just checking to make sure that your wife is home. Cats worry about their owners as well. Let her call him in and see if he cuddles down and falls back to sleep. Share your wife with him rather than keep her to yourself.

does the cat have any fleas? fleas wake the cat up at dawn and dusk when they are most active with their need to feed on the cats blood --this irritates the cat and cat can be allergic to fleas. very irritating to cat. try advantage as directed by your vet or the package insert--by weight of cat and frequency.
