Sure. I do it everyday. It may take him some time to not have accidents but he will adjust. I have had 3 month pups hold it longer.

A dog can hold themselves for 1 hr. for every month of age so at 5-1/2 months your dog can hold himself 5-1/2 hrs approx. You should never put food in a crate, just water. Feed him outside the crate when you get home or before you go out. You will just have a poopy mess in the crate if you leave food. Make a nice bed in the back of the crate and put newspaper in front of the bed with just a good size bowl of water. Dog's get used to specific crate times, so if you work or go to school during the day they will get used to you being away for that time and know they have to be in the crate. This will give you peace of mind that he isn't tearing up your house. But when you get home take him out, give him hugs and take him for a walk or play in the back yard. When he is over 1 year old you may want to try short trips away from the house without him being in the crate to see how he acts outside the crate. He is still a puppy and too young to be outside the crate.

Dogs at any age should not be left alone all day. Can you come home at lunch to walk him or can you hire a service to do that?

Dogs are social animals and in my experience, they aren't very happy being alone all day.

I adopted a 2nd dog to help with this issue. Each is crated from 8.30a to 12p, then they're out for a 45 minute walk/exercise, then back into the crate from 1p to 5p. My dogs are 1 and 3.

They need a mid-day break if you can arrange it.

Sure he is,Make sure you take him out before you leave and as soon as you get home, Dog"s dont usually soil there areas that they sleep in,but as a puppy accidents will accur,Get a crate that is big enough for it to turn around in,In case he does go Potty he wont go in the spot that he lays in. And if at all possible take your pup out for a walk in the morning to wear him down some.Good Luck!!! but if you can find some one to come over at noon to let him out to run around that would even be better

He will be fine if you give him something to chew on and some food and water. Its better if you can either come home at lunch and let him out to potty or have someone go over and do it for you. Some people will leave a radio or television playing so their pets dont get too lonely and stressed out.

If you can, come home and walk him during lunch. That is what I do with my dog. It is not really fair to keep him in his crate all day but yes, some dogs don't mind being in their crates as long as they have something to chew on.

Your dog should be just fine, make sure the crate is big enough for your dog to turn around in, but not so big, it'll go potty in the crate.

Your dog can probably make it all day, but for the sake of the dog, if you have someone who can come by for a little run outside mid day while you're gone, it will be much better for your puppy.
