because ignorance was bliss.

seriously, it's a cold world, i didn't realize just how much that little group of self delusion acted as emotional support. ^^ of course, everyone gets over it eventually, but man that start up. what a bish.

If it didn't go against everything i stand for (honesty, etc), I'd go back.

One can be perfectly happy and live a moral life as a non-theist, so the only reasons I can think of are:

1) To avoid persecution or malicious prejudice
2) To please family or a potential mate (many convert to the beliefs of their future spouse)
3) To "fit in" (e.g., someone living in a small town where there are few, if any, religious/philosophical alternatives)
4) Lingering superstitious beliefs (those who grew up in a religious setting or were exposed to religious ideas before becoming an atheist might have lingering concerns over superstitions like eternal suffering after death)

If I understand the question, and you are interested in pursuing a life of faith in G-d and accepting the atonement of your sins through the sacrifical death of HIs Son Jesus, then there are many reasons to do so. Number one is what Jesus promised, and it is core to the life of Jews and Christians - LIFE. In fact Jesus came that we may have life (both now and in the future) and life in abundance. Let me clarify the latter, an abundant life doesn't necessarily mean a Mercedes and a Mansion, though some Christians may have those, but it means that we don't rely on those things for our feelings of well being. We have an inner strength and an abiding hope in a better outcome for us in all situations. When you become a Christian and you study His word (for it was G-d breathed) He speaks to you and the Holy Spirit guides and comforts you. As in any relationship, the more that you abide with one with whom you are bonded to, the more of their attributes become yours (they rub off on you). So essentially the more you hang with G-d, and with His followers, the more G-dly you become. Just as you wouldn't want to offend a loved one with your words or your actions, the same holds true with your relationship with G-d. In time, just as any long-time married couple, the more each partner is able to know what the other is thinking. Let me close with this, He has been my strength and guide for over 38 years and it is a joy unspeakable and full of Glory.

In my experience, there's not many atheists that would like to be theists unless evidence for a god comes into being. Atheists are usually quite happy to live in reality.

They wouldn't. I think that if an atheist is going to change their mind and believe in a God, it would be a personal experience that would lead them there. I am only using the example that I have heard from a former atheist who is now an open minded Christian.

It gives them a sense of self-importance. they feel like Gods, smart, untouchable, self indulgent is what they are. They refuse to embrace they're Father, because the want to be able to break all the rules and live in their sins guilt free.

They got the "godcomplex-itis". I only hope they wake up in time to realize the truth and accept it. God Bless. Love. Amen.

Because they want to fit into society better.

Because their family is putting pressure on them

Because of the comfort of "eternal life" when they die is more important than rationalism?
