The first "soft-paw" heavyweight champion was a boxing bear named Nicolay Valuev. He couldn't break a potato chip with those "soft paws" of his.
The first "south paw" heavyweight champion was Michael Moorer when he defeated Evander Holyfield the first time.

The first to actually fight as a southpaw was Michael Moorer.
Remember, he was a "real" Heavyweight Champion; not an "ABC" champion like a Pinklin Thomas, etc.
Real Heavyweight Champions, can trace their lineage to John L. Sullivan.
