I'm a 10 year old girl about 2 turn 11 in 2 weeks. This Friday, in 3 days, I have a doctors appointment. In my last visit, 2 years ago, My doctor made a comment like,"OH! It looks like we're getting a little hair down here. I was embarrassed then. Now I have "boobs". I'm scared what comment she'll make this time. And now, it's worst. She and my mom are friends and she goes 2 the same church as us. PLEASE HELP!!!

This has happened to me before I am 12 and I have hair on my private area and I have boobs also and my doctor has made me feel embarrassed about those things too and I told my mom and my doctor that I felt uncomfortable and my doctor is now trying not to make me feel that way. So I would let your doctor know how you feel and tell your mom too.

Hope this helps and good luck on your doctor appointment.

That is a difficult situation with your mom and the doctor being friends. I don't remember my doctors getting that... uh... upclose and personal when I was your age.

With how young you are, it looks like your mom is probably the one who will have the final say. You need to try to talk to her about it. Tell her that you understand that she and the doctor are friends, but you were really uncomfortable durring the last visit.

That was a very unprofessional thing for the doctor to say. She shouldn't do it again, but you never know. She might feel comfortable saying what is on her mind because of the friendship.

I have an idea of how embarrassing that can be. I had a c-section when I was 20. The tape they used to "hold me together" got on some hairs and when my doctor pulled it off he said something about a "free bikini wax."

- Do you have a father or other family member that you could ask for help? You don't have to give them all the details, just say that last time the doctor made a comment that made you uncomfortable and you really want to see someone else. Maybe they could help talk to your mom.

I don't think your doctor was trying to embarass you, but it was a pretty insensitive comment. When I was about your age I switched from my regular pediatrician who I'd been going to since I was born to a new doctor who specialized in "adolescent medicine" or something like that. She was used to working with pre-teens and teens and knew how to talk to me without making me uncomfortable. Maybe your mom can help you find a doctor like that. I definitely agree with the other people who think you should talk to your mom about gettting a new doctor.

If you aren't able to switch before your appointment on Friday and your doctor makes another inappropriate comment just say, "I'm really not comfortable discussing that with you" in a strong clear voice. Hopefully she'll get the hint.

Good luck!

You poor thing. Tell your mom that the doctor embarrassed you and ask her to tell the doctor---privately and ahead of time. I bet the doctor will feel bad and try not to embarrass you again.

Unfortunately as the doctor examines you she may feel the need to make comments about your development to reassure you that you are developing properly. She is not trying to upset you, just let you know what's going on is good.

Maybe your mom can ask her to make no comments about your body except "you're doing fine" and leave it at that. She might need to ask you questions which may make you uncomfortable. Maybe your mom can find out ahead of time what will be going on at this checkup as far as questions are concerned so you will be prepared ahead of time.

Good luck.

I don't think the dr was trying to embarrass you, but that was a pretty stupid thing to say. Talk to your mom before your next appt. Be honest but don't freak out. Maybe she can talk to the dr about making those kinds of goofy comments. Your mom won't want you to feel bad if there's anything she can do about it.

Then, if the dr makes another comment at your appt anyway, let your mom know what kind of friend she has. It sounds weird, but talk to your mom about it. She can probably help solve the problem before it gets too gross. You don't have to carry this around by yourself. Good luck.

Does your mom know she is making comments like that? Just tell her what she is saying to you and you would like a doctor that is not friends with the family. I would understand that if I had a daughter and she came to me with something like this. BTW, my son, also, turns 11 in December (on the 18th). Hope you have a great birthday.

Confide in your mom just exactly how you feel, and ask if you can have another doctor. I would also ask your mom to give the new doctor a "heads up" that you are a little self conscious and get embarrassed easily (understandable at your age).

First of all why was this doctor looking at you down there at the age of 8 years old! I would definately ask to see a new doctor. That is insane! I am sorry I am at a loss for words as to why she was looking down in your private area!

Tell your mother that the comment she made last time made you uncomfortable. Ask her to speak with the doctor before your visit to avoid any future embarrassment.

That is rather inappropriate, but maybe since she has a personal relationship with your mom, she feels it's okay. I doubt she meant to upset you. You should talk to your mom and tell her how uncomfortable this made you. I'm sure your mom would be willing to talk to her for you and let her know that she's embarrassing you when she talks to you in that manner. Good luck!
