I have heard that the regular (non-electronic) fan-speed regulators commonly used in homes just get heated up and do not save electricity.Thus,even if you run the fan on lowest speed,the electricity used is the same as when running it at top speed.

Yes, electronic fan-speed regulators really do save electricity.

Electronic ones called dimmers really save electricity,I agree to this statement.
Commonly used regulators which get heated do not save electricity,I feel that is correct.

no on the contrary they consume more electricity as the regulator itself requires some electricity for its working!
