Simply put, the light within yourself.
I think far too many people put their focus on what's "out there." It could be their personal conception of god or their religion, or the one they love or hate. They either forget or don't know that the world they see, the things that they bring into focus, are in fact their conception of reality. But did that reality exist in the way we perceive it prior to our focus being directed to it?
Once you grasp the idea that your focus is what creates your reality, you can take the leap into being an active creator of your reality. In this, we are an extension of the divine. Our miraculous consciousness is divine.
Your hope, your fulfillment are squarely in your own hands. All you need do is take a moment to decide "how" you wish to perceive your reality and voila! You've made a fundamental shift to your internal paradigm and quite literally changed your life; your reality.
Don't believe me?
Here are two experiments for you to try.
1) Take five of your friends and have all of them look at the same painting. Ask them to write down what they see and how they feel about what they see. Then compare what they have written. You will be very surprised to discover that their personal perception, their personal reality is different from each other. They are all looking at the same thing but see it very differently.
2) Take a moment when you wake in the morning, maybe over your morning coffee, and decide not only what you plan to do for the day, but how you are going to react to all the stimulus you will receive. Decide, as an example, "today, no matter what happens to me, I will be happy." Then go about the business of your day and see what happens. It could change your life.
You, as a human being, as the caretaker of this marvelous thing known as consciousness - literally being the ultimate sensory machine - you are the creator of your reality. THIS is the gift. THIS is the source of your ultimate joy and fulfillment. And you will never find it by looking "out there." You will only find it by looking "in here." By observing how you react to things, then deciding if changing those reactions is beneficial to you. That is the first step in creating your reality. From there, you can literally create whatever you want. The world is literally your oyster but impacting that world, creating what you want, is an internal work of art, not an external one. The seed is always planted inside the soil, not on the soil - from there, whatever beauty or ugliness is conceived of, will grow and flourish. The choice is yours.

As one poster mentioned, a deep understanding of science ond philosophy. The discoveries humans make on a daily basis about the living universe and the world we live can inspire awe and wonder. Contemporary religion is not at odds with science, since it provides a mechanism to truly understand God's work and creation. Fundamentalists on the other hand, would disagree.

And We caused Jesus, son of Mary, to follow in their footsteps, fulfilling that which was revealed before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel which contained guidance and light, fulfilling that which was revealed before him in the Torah; and a guidance and an admonition for the God-fearing.

your community, your spouse and children, your society, exhilaration, ethics, artwork, understanding, etc. those are the most worry-free sources of fulfillment and meaning, even between religious human beings. i imagine that a large style of the meaning human beings get carry of from faith is truly meaning received from being area of a social custom.
