My father-in-law passed away last week and when my husband went back to work his co-workers had collected over $1,000 for him. What are we supposed to do with this money?

Ask the co-workers what they would ideally like to see the money go towards. If they say they don't care, give it to his widow. She may have bills or housekeeping expenses to work at now that it is a single income home.

people will do that to help with a memorial fund or just to be nice, see if who ever took care of funeral arrangements needs help with it and give it to them.
sorry for your loss, my aunt just died last week as well, it is hard.
