I am a stay at home mom of a 3 month old. I am thinking about doing child care, and would like to know what kind of training I should have to get started. And maybe suggestions as to how soon to start.

Just call up your local state offices, they will send you a packet with all the information you need. You will have to register with them, and take their provided classes, have your home tested and checked, and provide them with a cirtificate of first aid training.

The requirements are different for each state, usually you need a license. In my state you need a license if you watch more than 3 kids not related to you.

CPR would be a good thing to take but i don't think any training is required in most states and you can do it out of your home.

Self-defense training is most important....use family pets for practice. Experiment with bear mace to jumpstart an effective learning environment.
