Of course they should. Would you go to work for free?

A prostitute, by definition, is a person who gives bodily physical pleasure in return for money. Hence she charges for the services she gives.
There are many women who sleep around with men and receive expensive presents or other favours in return. It is a form of disguised "charge", and they therefore indulge in disguised "prostitution".
A prostitute (meaning a woman who trades her body for money) very often is a victim of society. This holds true in developed as well as undeveloped communities, rich as well as poor. Only, the nature of her victimisation may be different owing to difference in culture and circumstances.
I'm quite sure she is not doing it because she is enjoying it. The majority, by and large, would love to get out of this pernicious situation at the first available opportunity. But often it's poverty that keeps them in there. Poverty can mean different things in different societies. Basically it is the need to earn. In some societies, prostitution provides the means of survival for self and family. In others it is the desperate need for money for drugs, or among college girls to indulge in new clothes, shoes and other feminine knick-knacks that all young girls enjoy indulging in, but which she cannot for lack of funds. Hence prostitution provides an easy route to obtain these things.
All said and done, a prostitiute is a very unhappy woman. Deep down she has a badly wounded heart. One may not want to visit her, for whatever reason, but one must never look down on her in contempt. If anything, she should be dealt with compassion and understanding, and if someone has the means to provide her with a decent means of earning and get her out of her rut, one could help her through one of the numerous social agencies which do very good work to help rehabilitate them. I do not advise direct help, as this can invite very serious consequences, including threat to one's life, from those who live off her earnings.
For once we should try to see the world from another's perspective. It will only improve our own understanding of ourselves.

Nothing is wrong with prostitution as long as it is regulated.

Nevada, Amsterdam and many other places allow it under the law.

The prostitutes should be allowed to charge as they have a right to make money

Your body is your body and if you choose to charge for sex with you that should be your choice.

The reason that prostitution is often illegal is really to stop the male predators that kill prostitutes and the drug sales in the same area that the prostitutes work in.

Take care,
Troy

Do you mean should they be legal ? Mmmm...tricky. It would mean less violence & exploitation of working girls..but realistically, no one wants a knocking shop next door, do they ?

I wonder if they would have to pay income tax ? And how they would pay off any arrears ? And would fat cats try to claim call-girls against their tax bill ? The mind boggles.

No they shouldn't charge, but they should be shown a recent STD test from each man so they don't get STDs to pass on to other innocent men.
