i just noticed a tiny black spot on my tooth right on the gumline. Is this a cavity? What could it be?

Probably a cavity. Yes cavities do occur on the gumline, and no it is not dried blood from a rotting tooth! The other possibilities are: poppy seed, piece of pepper from dinner last night, or just staining.

The spot could very well be a cavity or it could be a stain. Either way you should see a dentist to be sure.

Its not a cavity because i think cavities are on the bottom of your tooth not the top on the gums.

Cool picture. It might take a couple of months for you to feel discomfort when eating sweets, or with hot/cold. Another four months to get to the root which will be quite expensive to fix. Root canals run in the 900's. I'd have it fixed right away.

It is most likely a cavity.
