Two possible solutions both based on CO2 carbon dioxide.
1. Drink a large glass of soda water/ fizzy lemonage . The increased levels of CO2 affects the nerves which cause the hiccups .This works for me
2. Breathe into a paper or plastic bag which increases the blood CO2 concentrations and inhibits the nerve impulses.
See the following :-
http://www.madeyourhiccups.info/problem-breathing-hiccups.html
"one remedy for problem breathing hiccups has a fairly sound rationale underlying it. Breathing into a bag or small enclosed container (ensuring that it is completely sealed around the mouth and nose) induces a state that is termed respiratory acidosis. The effect is caused by increasing the amount of inspired carbon dioxide, which then increases the serum level of carbon dioxide. The problem breathing hiccups subside with these increased levels of CO2 lowering the pH in the blood, hence creating a state of acidosis. This state of acidosis produces vasodilation and depression of the central nervous system. The effect allows for increased blood flow to the affected muscles, and suppression of the aberrant nervous impulses and eases the problem breathing hiccups."

This sounds crazy, but it works every time for me.
Get a glass of water. Put your mouth on the far side of the glass and lean forward and take slow gulps like this. You will be at like a 90 degree angle drinking from the opposite side of the glass than normal. If anyone sees you they will laugh, but you won't hiccup any more.

I always drink water from a glass backwards, but generally anything that takes your mind off the hiccups will do the trick. Before you know it they have gone!

Plug your ears while you are drinking. This is easiest if you have a straw and put your drink on the counter. It works every time for me!
