I knew this day would come.......Hello, I raise and breed Saints. I am not going to give you any smart a** answers but good advice. Your child may want a Saint for Christmas but, he is too young. Saints need a special hand, they are very large while still puppies. Only after years of experience with other smaller dogs did I purchase my first Saint. I don't blame you for wanting one, they are my favorite dog. They just aren't STARTER DOGS! Plus their vet bills come in double than a smaller breed. They require twice the medication, flea treatment and my groomer charged me double for the Saints. If all you have is $400.00 you cant afford a Saint. You will only be getting a lesser quality of dog that will come with LARGER bills. Remember, everything with a Saint is larger. The cost, mess, destruction....EVERYTHING!!!!!!

Depending where you are from........ I am 25 weeks pregnant and about to move into a no pets building, and I have a 17 month old Saint Bernard, not exactly a small little puppy, but she is house trained already and very loveable and great with kids, I could never ask for a better dog, and I love her with all my heart, but cannot keep her in the place I am about to move so if you are interested let me know and let me know where you are from and maybe we can work something out. and I would sell her for 400 no problem, even though I paid way more, I just want her to have a good home, so Please let me know.

unfortunately the price theshold you desire is below the wholesale price. We operate a pet store and we would be happy to buy them for that price. You won't find a St B puppy at a shelter that doesn't have problems. Puppyfind.com is a breeders outlet to the public but the prices are full retail. I suggest you contact a local pet store, advise them you want one. They will get you one for less if you commit to taking it. We do. You can always get pictures of the puppy in advance as well as the parents. We do not have any now. You can see what we do have at ItsJustPuppyLove.com Avoid brokers and puppy mills as the quality of the puppy is often not as good. Either direct from the breeders or through a store is best. Believe it or not you will pay about the same either way. Breeders discount puppies to the stores because we buy many and often. Breeders still sell retail to the public.
Comments that store buy through puppy mills is a terrible generalization. Yes the large chains do. They need to to fill their supply lines. But there are many smaller family owned stores that do not. Most of our puppies come from amish families that home raise them. Puppy mills are bad but not all pet stores use them.

Neither Oroville nor Sacramento are in southern California. yet sure, there are a spread of St. Bernard breeders in northern California. 2 that i will imagine of in Shingle Springs. I advise that you contact the Hangtown Kennel club (in Placerville) and ask them for a Breeder referral. commerce to that, Google "St. Bernard Rescue - California" and also you ought to get countless returns. also, only for grins, attempt the Sacramento SPCA protect on Bradshaw or the Animal Care protect on Florin-Perkins highway.

See all the ones that say no kids. I have found some large dog rescues simply will not consider adopting if there are kids under three years of age. Its not necessarily the the dog is bad. The last St Bernard I rescued another rescue offered to help but she needed kids and I didn't want her limited.

It would not hurt to ask her if she would sell you a puppy at that price with limited AKC registration. Here puppies are sold with full AKC registration. She also accepts pay pal which might help you as you could pay with a credit card as well. Great lady.
Blessings,

If you find one for that price, I doubt it will have come from health tested parents. It would be a shame to get a kid a puppy, only to have it need orthopedic surgery or have to be euthanized in a year.
Sometimes you get what you pay for and a BYB for breeds with lots of health problems is not a great idea.

Don't get a prue bred...especially not as a 8 year olds companion. What a waste of money! Visit your local shelter, and take home a puppy that really needs a home.

Don't buy from pet stores; they get their animals from puppy mills. Check www.petfinder.com.
