is beer still drinkable after it's been in a bottle for nearly 30 years

It depends on whether it's brewed for this, or brewed for immediate consumption!

The ingredients used are different....

Generally not. If the alcohol content of the beer is above 13% alcohol by volume, it might be drinkable. Still, thirty years is a long time for beer. I would say keep it as a novelty and never open it.

I've heard of aging beer, but never for more than about 18 months. I know many of the import beers I buy go pretty flat after being in the bottle about a year.

Drinkable though? I'm guessing strictly and technically speaking, yes. I wouldn't advise it though.

It depends on the beer. Some darker beers age well, as do some with higher alcohol content. In fact, I have some holiday style beer that I bought several years ago that ages very well. Every year, I have one and let the rest keep aging. (of course, I buy some fresh stuff too). I have beer in my refrigerator that I made myself over 5 years ago that is still very good.

30 years? It could be. If you open the bottle and get a "whoosh" sound (CO2 escaping). It's probably still good. Then its just a matter of taste. I've heard of beers being recovered from very old shipwrecks that's still good.

It Depends what it is. If it is a strong ale like a barley wine that has enough alcohol to withstand that kind of aging, then yes. But otherwise it will probably be pretty horrid.

Even a strong very strong ale will likely have some oxidised or sherry like flavours but it will be a complex and rewarding drink. Ales, like wimes, can age very well if they are strong enough. I made a barley wine that is 12% ABV and it is four years old now - it just keeps getting better and better.

Can you tell me what it is?

The worst that can happen will be the beer has gone off, it will be very nasty to drink. Otherwise cheers m8 :)

Better look in it before you drink it, mine catches flies after 3 days.

There's only one way to find out! It should be if the seal is still intact. Open it and if it doesn't make a shoosh noise it will be flat and nasty.

I wouldn't take my chances. Beer does not age well.
