LCD are better than plasma. and of the brand names are pretty much the same as each other. if you are thinking towards hd days then Sony bravia are said to be the ultimate

Plasma gives you the best picture i think. And it so thin that it you can compare it as a LCD monitor with the CRT monitor... it saves you space, and it's wallmountable ( lcd tv is too heavy for that ) Eventhough it lasts for only a few years, but I would change my TV every 4-5 years anyways... so Plasma is the best. But there are something you need to know when you use a plasma tv... NEVER ever leave the tv on for too long ( like falling asleep without turning it off), pause the movie and leave the tv on then go somewhere else for hours... the images will be burned to your screen ( because plasma use gas to make picture) and it won't go away.

It's personal preference. Have you gone to the store and seen LCD and plasma tv's? LCD provides a sharp and bright image. Plasma provides a softer image with vivid colors. They are both equally great technologies. I personally like plasma. I think LCD's oversaturate colors and oversharpen the image. I have a 50" Zenith plasma.

I would suggest to go to the store and let your eyes be the judge. Other than difference in image quality, there are no other differences. Same connectivity, screen sizes, weights. Prices are starting to equalize as well. Due to price differences at small screen sizes, I would probably pick an LCD for a smaller screen size like a 32 inch. If you are going to a 40" or more, then go with a plasma.

This debate has been going on for years. Just like the debate between Xbox 360 vs. PS3 or PC vs. Mac or DVD-R vs. DVD+R. There are no right or wrong answers here. It's a personal preference and it depends on your usage.

It all depends on your rooms lighting conditions. Plasma TVs have a highly polished screen and tend to reflect a lot of lights from lamps, windows, etc. LCDs have a non-glare coating on the screen and reflect considerably less light than Plasmas.

So if your room is fairly dark or you are able to control your lights pretty well, go with Plasma. But if your room is really bright and you can't control light sources very well, go with LCD.

I, personally, have a Samsung 46" LCD in a really bright room with lots of windows and the picture is amazing even on really bright summer days with all the curtains open.

few words of advice:

plasma TV's will stop working after 50,000 hours of use or so. it's just the nature of the technology. there is no "regassing" of a plasma screen. Once it starts to fail, it's a goner.

LCD TV's don't look as good as a plasma to my eye. they still suffer from a slower refresh rate and i see trails during soccer games. They also don't produce a true black and if you'r eused to watching a properly tuned TV, the colors will look washed out and you'll never get them exactly the way they should...this is also because of the nature of the technology.

personally, if i HAD to pick one, i'd go plasma even tho it'll die in a few years because at least i'll have a few years of visually stunning performence, and not some sub-par picture.
