Those of you who are born again christians- do you think it is important and crucial to use scripture when answering a question about the truth? I definately think it is always good to back up our answers with God's word- instead of just give our opinion....because God's word is what matters. Sot if you do say something biblical do you back that up with the scriptural reference or at least try to as much as possible? Do you think that is important?

Ugh I hate when I mess up the Title of the question! I meant "So DO you think it is important..."

I agree. Jesus Himself used that model....He is a pretty good example to follow! Plus I myself am always most interested in what God has said - for His opinion is far more valid than mine.

Also it seems logical. For if we were answering questions about the constitutionality of something, it would only make sense that we would refer to the Constitution wouldn't it?

Nowadays people who are non believers always use the term circular reasoning.Remember we're living in a world where the "intellectual" crowd thinks the religious people are stupid. They use the word dogma. That's a popular one they use. Then some of your "intellectual elite" will use sentences that try to belittle a person. You know, flexing their "brain power".
Intellectual pride will always let a person down.

Yes,continue to use the word of God.The more you study it,the more detail you can use when answering questions.

2 Timothy 3:16-17," All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

As a non-Christian, I find that very unhelpful. You're not giving "God's opinion," you're giving your own interpretation of the Bible. Also, many of us have Bibles at home, and we can all access the Bible online. I thank you for sharing a reason why we get so much scripture cut and pasted here, but really, many of us would love to just hear from *you*!

Yes, it is important to quote God's word, because as you say it is this, and not our opinion that is important. So, yes I try to do so wherever possible.

Yes I think it's important.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness........2 Tim.
..........as much as possible.

Yes, if one asks a question about truth, then one must use truth to answer it.

not really who you were directing your question towards, but the one thing is, people who don't believe in your religion... generally don't consider your bible to be anything of spiritual/historical value, so citing scripture is generally pointless. (and to be frank: annoying).

And If they already accepted the bible on those levels, you wouldn't need to be preaching.
