My son just finished 9 weeks of basic training and 11 weeks of "Schooling" for the Army. It depends which career field you are in as to the length of the schooling part of it. My husband's school was three months for his career field in the Air Force.

Military, The army has 3-5 days of orientation then 9 weeks of basic training, after basic you have your AIT school which can last 5 weeks to 54 weeks depending on what job you sign up for.
The AIT isn't that bad depending on what your going into. If it's artillery or the infantry then you have 14-18 weeks of pretty intense training. Police in Nashville, TN go through a 10 week program.

Basic training for the Armed Forces is as follows:
ARMY: 9 weeks
NAVY AND COAST GUARD: 9 weeks
AIR FORCE: 6 weeks (will be increasing to 9 weeks very soon)
MARINES: 13 weeks
After that, technical/specialty training for the armed forces runs from two weeks to one year, depending on your MOS/AFSC.
For the police, basic training usually runs from 13-26 weeks depending on which state you're in and what agency you're working for. Here in Michigan, the training camp for State Police is 26 weeks.
