I have two cats, but neither one of them like to be held. I try to cuddle with them all the time, but they won't have any of it. It has to be on their terms. Are there any cats who don't mind being held?

I've had both of my cats since they were babies. My youngest used to jump on us all the time, but now she's really rowdy and would rather hang out with our older cat than me and my bf.

I love both of my cats very much, and they do come to me for attention, but they won't accept it if I initiate it. lol.

Yes, but I've found they get much more cuddly as they get older. Young cats are much more independent.

Cats have different personalities, some like to be held and some don't. Some are independent and some can't do anything alone. Just like people :)

If you want a cuddly cat, you can go the local pound or rescue mission and look at the cats there, pick them up, play with them. and see how they react.

Also, kittens can be trained from birth, so you could get a small one and teach him to love being held, stroked, and petted.

I've had a number of cats over the years, mostly mixed-breeds. Some of them have liked to be cuddled. Some of them hated it. The elder of my present two cats will beg to be picked up and very much likes to be cuddled. The other will sit on my lap or chest when she feels like it, but she does not like to be picked up. I think you just take them as they are.

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable about specific breeds of cats can recommend a breed that is very cuddly. However, a breed is only a breed; individuals have their own personalities. Also, if you get your next cat from a small cat shelter, the staff may be able to point you to a particular cat they know to be a cuddler.

I had a cat who lived to be almost 20 and he loved being held. I could hold him in my arms for a long time and he loved it. If I remember correctly, he liked being held more as he got older. My other 3 cats don't like to be held for more than a minute and then they wiggle and want to get down.

Different cats have different personalities. However, just like people the adult personality is a combination of nature and nuture. If you handle a kitten a lot, from the time it is a baby, they are usually much more willing to be held as adults. I don't mean forcing it to be held when it wants to play, but just picking it up and holding it in your arms like a baby, while you are watching TV, etc. Sometimes, if you get a kitten that is sleeping and transfer it to your arms, it is easier to get him to stay.

Some people use things like squirt guns and spray bottles on their cats when they are kittens, and don't think the cat ever figures out who is doing the spraying. They can and they do. Scolding a cat in a mean voice can create emotional gaps too. The more you really baby a kitten, the more they will bond to you and stay bonded as an adult.

I'm sure you've done your best. You sound like you really love your cats. When you catch them lying down sleeping, try to slip in beside them and give them cuddly soft talk and kisses. Sometimes they get to like it.

Yeah come to my house. I can hardly shake off my cats half the time.

Cats are different than dogs. Cats want attention and love too but it has to be when the want it.

My youngest cat is the only one I can randomly pick up and just hold him. He may not totally enjoy it but he doesnt fight to get away, but if I sit down on my couch I usually have at least one of the three cats on my lap with in 10 minutes.

Cats get their ways and then their is no changing that. I have 2 cats that, get their days when they want to be on a lap and then they go for long periods of time that they dont.

Yep, mine does not mind. After while my kitty wants to be let down, but he does love to cuddle on his terms. Most cats though, do not enjoy it. Cats are extremely independent creatues, and feel inhibited when one holds them. They need the freedom to choose when they want to be held versus when you want to hold them. I am still learning this, because sometimes I just want to cuddle my kitty...and those times are when he is not keen on it. The times he is, is when he wants to cuddle. Give the cats freedom to be themselves, and see what happens. In time, they may enjoy it more...but let them choose, don't do the choosing for them.

Are they male or female cats? Are they spayed or neutered? How old are they? Were they hand raised as kittens?

These are all factors which will effect a cat's desire to be coddled.

Perhaps you aren't holding them correctly. Cats don't like to be on their backs, they should be upright in your arms. Some don't like to be held up high, prefer to be held while you are sitting.

If they are young, they will come around for more affection when they are older. In the meantime, keep picking them up and holding them and eventually they wil start coming to you.

I have two cats and the older one who is a year old now, he use to follow me everywhere and always cuddle with me and play but now he doesnt really want anything but a scratch on the head and food in his bowl. :-/ But i just got another cat, and from the impression this kitten gives me he'll want to cuddle with me forever, lol. He follows me all over right when i get in the house he comes up and follows me and right when i sit down he rubs his face on mine and starts to lick me face lol.. and he sleeps with me almost every night and he lays right next to my face and even then he tries to lick my face. lol. When im trying to get ready or if i dont pay him all the attention or give him something to play with hell cry until i pick him up and pet and play with him. Hes so adorable, i love it. It all just depends on the cats and their personality. They can change. And i hope they become more cuddly with you because for me it really feels good.
