A lot of times the date on products is the "sold by" date (this is true of milk), which means you have a couple of days after that date to consume the product. Other products have "best by" dates, which means just what it sounds like it means - it's better if you consume it by that date, but won't kill you if you consume it an unspecified time after that date.

For those items, if it passes a sniff test and looks OK, I would have no problems consuming the product.

The only thing I don't consume past its expiry date is yogurt. First of all, some of the yogurts with a higher fat content (like the cream-top yogurts from Stonyfield Farms and Brown Cow) turn really sour/ rancid/ nasty soon after those expiration dates (for whatever reason, lowfat and nonfat yogurts tend to be OK longer). Plus the expiration dates on yogurt also signify the approximate time at which those live & active cultures (which are good for your digestive system) become dead & inactive cultures (and so have no value for your digestive system).

Sure its OK, if it smells alright and tastes OK, drink it! The expiry date is almost always several days in advance. Manufacturers of food/beverages just don't trust the general public. But always smell it first, OK! Remember, these products can go off even before the expiry date, it all depends on you and if you put these items back in the fridge right after using them.

If it smells alright, yes. Foods are generally good a few days after the expiration date.

Milk should be good for one week after it's expiration.
