I did Home School in Utah from 2nd grade till 9th. Basically as far as I know, the state needs to know where all kids are going to school. So you'll need to go the the county and "register" as Home schooled. Then as far as what you need to learn, you can google different cirriculum, and find out what your school class will be learning for the year. There are a bunch of different companies that have work books. On a more personal note, the great thing about Home School, is that you can learn as much and as fast as you want to.No boundaries! I think you'd just get a GED unless you take one or two classes at the High School and then take an end of year test each year. Good Luck! Oh, I almost forgot, In Utah and Idaho, they have Home School Groups! You can join one and do all sorts of things with them like field trips and plays and all.

I'd suggest trying to find a homeschool support group where you live. Reading the laws is not the same as hearing what it's like from other homeschoolers who have been living by them.

My personal recommendation would be to make sure that your home ed. program meets or exceeds the basics taught in school. That way, if you do ever end up going back or even switching to some sort of online program, you'll know what you need to know. You can find out about Idaho standards here http://www.sde.state.id.us/instruct/standards/default.htm .

As for diploma or GED, go for the diploma. The homeschooling support group will be able to give you more information on how to go about that. The GED has a certain stigma attached to it.

Apparently, Idaho does not monitor home schooling and the parent is free to choose the curriculum. The Idaho Department of Education does offer suggestions, and they list links to sites regarding home schooling. Good luck.

Here is another site ot check out for the state of Idaho.

I also wanted to commend you for looking this info up for your mom. Although it is partly her job, at your age you are fully capable of looking this sort of info up to pass on to her. Also, it is of benefit for you to be educated yourself on the issues of homeschooling since as you can see there are a lot of negative people around who don't have a clue about homeschooling other than to bash it.

Why are you quitting school? What's wrong ? Couldn't you consider another school in Idaho?
Are you in a hurry to get through school and start college? You could ask for more advanced placement classes instead of quitting school
Are you having a difficult time learning in school? Your family could work with you ALONG with the school to get you caught up

How did you convince your parents home schooling is good for you?

don't take this the wrong way, but if you start homeschooling, I'm assuming your mom/dad will be responsible for your instruction, so isn't it his/her responsibility to find all the required information about homeschooling? If they are not commited to researching it, how will they be commited to your learning?

Begging your pardon, but shouldn't your parents be involved in investigating what you're supposed to be doing?

Call your local school district and ask. That's how I went about it in Maryland. I contacted my school district and asked for information about home schooling. They directed me to their web site that covered that information.
