Any cardio workout which raises your heart rate 60 to 80% of your peak heart rate level. Your peak heart rate is 196. Therefore, calculate 60 to 80% (196 x .06) (196 x .08). Running has been statistically proven to be the most effective at burning calories.
The main foods to avoid is anything which contain saturated fat. Since you are a vegetarian, you are already accomplishing that goal. But as a vegetarian, you need to focus on your protein intake. Your protein consumption should be roughly 50% of your total intake. This is hard to accomplish being a vegetarian.
If you consume fish, I suggest you consider fish such as salmon, halibut, white fish and cod, just to name a few. These will provide a good source of protein while increasing your omega 3. If you do not consume fish, you need to consume soy products, beans, wheat products, yogurt and other dairy products. Do a search in Google to determine your protein sources for vegetarians.
As for losing 15 lbs in 4 months, this is a good goal. Considering it is safe to lose 2.5 to 3 lbs safely per week, you can reach your goal sooner than you may expect. It requires discipline and hard work, but it's not impossible as long as you stay on track with diet and exercises.

You might think about trying this book called "The Movie Star Diet" by Steve Simmons. It helped me lose thirty pounds in 2 1/2 months when I didn't think anything would work. My goal to begin with was only 20 lbs! It has a really easy plan to follow and an excellent workout as well.

High protein low carb.
Get on an exercise program and stick with it. If you start lifting weights you will firm things up tremendously but actually gain weight. If you do yoga or pilates then you will firm up and lose weight as long as you stick to your diet.
remember burn all of the calories you put in.
Get a body mass index done and go from there.
OR do it the easier way and try one of the many FAT BURNER pills on the market today. You have a greater tendancy to put it back on because you are still eating the same as you were.

Hi Isha,
The first step to weight loss is a visit to your Doctor. Go in for a general check-up. Ensure that you are not already pre-disposed to any medical conditions.
Secondly, find a good Gym. A good gym should be able to provide its patrons with cardio as well as weight training opportunities. ENSURE THAT THERE IS GOOD CROSS-VENTELATION. DO NOT WORK OUT IN AN AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENT.
Thirdly, while at the gym ensure that you explain your objectives clearly to the instructor. Ensure that there is a good mix of cardio and weight training Incorporated in your programme.
Fourthly, and most importantly, DO NOT SET A DEADLINE TO LOOSE WEIGHT. Ensure that you work out hard, work out well and work out regularly.
Lastly, please ensure that you eat well and drink sufficent water.
All The Best!!!

The type of food you eat is less relevant towards weight loss than overall general health. Eating less Calories than you burn causes weight loss. So watch the calories, and burn more to lose weight.
