A lot of people had suggest fleas. If you have ruled out allergies, this very well may be the case, even if she doesn't have pets. Unfortunately fleas are very hard to get rid of and require washing all sheets, fabric table clothes and low hanging curtains in the house every week along with spraying the floor with flea spray and vaccuuming every few days for a month+.

My suggestion to determine if she has fleas or not would be to take a light colored fleece blanket and lay it across the middle of the floor of a room you think may be infested. Leave it for a few hours and if it is the fleas will come onto the blanket and you will be able to see them easily. I kept light brown fleece blankets on the floor in my house to monitor when flea eggs were hatching so I could respray/vaccuum. You could also have your friend and her son wear white fluffy socks around the house - If she has fleas, they will jump onto the socks.

Another thing to consider if this is a one time thing and more are not appearing is that he may have gone to bed with a spider! There are certain types of common household spiders that are agressive and will bite without being provoked. They are not poisonous but some people have an allergic reaction to them. (I get bruises and bumps.)

It absolutely must be flea bites. We've been battling it ourselves as well. Apparently, around here (the Northeast) this has been the worst fall season for them in years due to the humidity. Our cat was clean when we moved in but the previous owner must have left a carpet full of eggs behind. Grrrr!

Treat any animals you have with a good topical treatment from a vet (not the cheap stuff from Wal-Mart). Spray all your carpets and upholstery. Make sure you keep any treated animal present in the rooms of your house so that they can take most bites and so that the fleas will die due to the flea treatment you gave them. If there are no animals around the fleas will make due with their 2nd choice -- you and the rest of the humans.

I had bumps/bites that itched me on my arms before and the doctor had no idea what it was but he gave me some kind of steroid cream and they went away. I think I have actually pin pointed this down to the sun. I have realized that I have gotten these things 3 years in a row and it's at the beginning of summer when they come. Give him some benadryl and if they don't go away in a few days take him to the doctor.

If they don't go all the way up his legs, could be flea bites. If it's all the way up could be an allergy to new detergent or fabric softener. Could also be a food allergy. Something best left for a doctor to look at, and get a proper diagnosis.

Probably flea bites.I have allergy to fab softener and so does my son...we normally only break out in area where we might sweat or there is heat...like armpits/chest...crotch/groin...you get the point...anyways,I grew up on a farm in mid michigan...lots of animals...lots of cats and dogs...about once a month we had to completely powder the floors and let it set for a few hours, then vacumme. All due to common fleas on our pets.We kept getting bites on our feet/ankles/legs.The trick is to kill the eggs.Nowadays...the sprays work much better and seem to last longer.Good Luck...
