Both- many do not understand the Love of God. God is to be feared- a reverant and HOLY fear of the Lord is what is required. And I do Fear Him! It is a good fear though! I also love Him with all my heart, soul, mind and strength. I think once you truly come to understand the gospel of Jesus Christ- it is then you know what the Love and Fear are- God is awesome!
Exodus 20:20
Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning."
-There are so many verses on the Fear of the Lord- one of my favorites is "The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge" -Proverbs 1:7

Both. He is a righteous Judge and Loving Father.
Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Deuteronomy 6:5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
Fearing God = respecting His authority
Trust and obey for there's no other way....

I notice few good answers to your question
However can you tell me who should fear the law ? A criminal or a peace loving citizen ??
Likewise why should YOU and I fear the God ?
If We are not doing any thing against the will of God, why we should fear Him. Of course if we commit any wrongful deed, we must fear His wrath.
As for me, I certainly love Him since He says....
" And my mercy encompasseth all things." The quran,[ 7:156]

The Bible says that "to fear God is the beginning of wisdom". I think this could also be translated as to "respect God". Look at your own father, you respect him (or at least you should) and you also love him. You may fear what he would do if he found you misbehaving, but this didn't diminish your love for him. The same holds true for God. And remember, God doesn't save us because of how much we love Him, but because of how much He loves us.

Both, and I think you are getting having fear and being scared confused. There is no need to be scared of God, but we should all have a healthy fear of him because of what he could do. God deserves that respect from us.

Our God is a loving God. That is why he gave his only Son to us to come die for our sins so that we could have a chance to be with Him in heaven. God does not want you to fear Him. Instead he prefers to have a strong relationship with you and for you to walk with him in this life so you can enjoy your rewards when you meet Him in heaven. God gives us many gifts and His greatest is love, Love for Him, Love for Jesus His Son, Love for the Holy Spirit, and most importantly Love for each other, including your enemies. God does not want you to fear Him, and when you choose to walk with Him, You shall have nothing else to fear, because he will take care of your every needs.

I have studied the old testament since I could first read, and if you take a look at the original word in Hebrew (the language the old testament was written in) it translates better to respect than fear. It's not just respect, but ultimate respect. We don't need to fear God in the sense that He could ever harm us or cause us pain. We need to fully respect Him and trust in His will. He will never lead us astray.
