I've been transferred to a front of desk / reception position in a hotel where I am working temporarily. My hair is below collar but not shoulder length. They've said it's not a problem, but I have to wear it tied up into a ponytail. Problem is that my fine hair keeps coming out of the ponytail band which they don't like since they say it looks "scruffy." How do I make a "neater" ponytail and keep my hair in it? I really don't want to cut it for what is only a temporary job.

I wear ponytails all the time because it irritates me when my hair is all i my face.

You may need to use a different brand of rubber bands. Try using the "Ouchless" rubber bands...you can find them at any drugstore and it doesn't cost that much. Use the colored bands close to your hair shade. I would recommend that you either use hairgel/hairspray or pomade on your hair before you tie it up.

When I make my ponytails I take some hairgel and massage it on the top of my wet hair. I part my hair and comb it back. I then use hairspray to hold it in place then tie it with the band. If I still have fly-aways, I rub dime-size dallop or pomade in my hands and smooth it over the fly away. And if you need hair clips to hold it in place, I would recommend using clips the same color as your hair color. It looks classy and professional that way.

...works every time!

I forgot to mention to use a fine tooth comb...those are the best.

I had to do the same for school. Use a really good hold gel and comb it through your hair when it's wet. Then use the comb (preferably a fine tooth one), and help pull the hair into the ponytail. Use an elasticated hair-tie (maybe one that's labled non-pulling) and tie it tightly. Let your hair dry like this it should stay neat all day long, since the hair gel will hold the little stray hairs in place.

The only problem being, it might give you headaches, and the gel will make your hair pretty stiff and greasy, so you might have to wash it every day.

You might be able to get away with a looser ponytail, and just slick down the stray strands with hair gel, but it won't look as neat.

Good luck!

Use gel or mousse first. Then make sure to use a pony tail holder that is non slip. They make them now that have small "grippers" on them to keep the hair from coming out. Goody makes them, and they are called "stay put" elastics.

You can also try the little elastics that are "no snag". You can wrap them really tight and the hair is less likely to come out. You can only use them once though.

You could try hairspray, too. They make unscented if you don't want perfumey smells.

You should also use a good brush. Get one specifically for "smoothing" hair. The ones with a lot of boar bristles are the best.

I had to do a similar for school. Use a marginally impressive take care of gel and comb it by ability of your hair even as that's moist. Then use the comb (ideally a passable teeth one), and help pull the hair into the ponytail. Use an elasticated hair-tie (probable one it really is labled non-pulling) and tie it tightly. enable your hair dry like this it ought to stay neat all day lengthy, because of the actuality the hair gel will carry the little stray hairs in subject. the purely situation being, it would want to provide you with complications, and the gel will make your hair quite stiff and greasy, so that you would ought to bathe it each day. You perchance able to escape with a looser ponytail, and easily slick down the stray strands with hair gel, even though it won't be able to seem as neat. perfect luck!

Spray some hairspray on your hair first and then gather it into the ponytail. That should keep those stray hairs from coming out.

First of all when your hair is wet use gel and then get very thin comb intead of a brush and do the ponytail with the comb not the brush and it will be neater.

Ok first to get a ponytail, tip your head down so that all the hair is hanging down, gather it together, and tie it while your still down there, for the bits that come out, brush the up against your head, and get hairspray, and spray on the bits that come out.
Hope you get my complicated way of this =)

Try using a hair wax to help hold those fine flyaways then spritz lightly with spray after you are done. Use an "ouchlesss" band, they tend to hold better.
