He was going 75 on the garden state pkwy the limit was 65

Paramus is a shady town....

10mph over could be a big deal if the speed limit is high(55-65) or if it was a school zone or a construction zone.

Fines are usually doubled in this area.

Also, Paramus cops tend to lay it on Asians for some reason. So if you friend is Asian, that could be a factor.

Usually for 10 mph over, the tickets I've had were $100 to $175. It depends on where you get the ticket though. Are you sure he didn't get ticketed for anything else? Maybe not wearing a seatbelt or no proof of insurance? You should be able to call the court clerk, say you got a ticket for 10 miles over and ask how much it will be. The officer could have made a mistake when he wrote down the amount on the ticket.

Was it a school zone or construction zone? That will like triple the fine..
Plus, court costs can add up too.

There was the fine, then court costs and fees, which are usually about 100-200% of the fine itself.
