Hi there...oranges are fine for cats so long as it's an occasional treat. They are very acidic so it can affect the urine pH/alkaline balance. If your kitty is prone to urinary infections this would be best avoided.

Quite unusual for a cat to like citrus. Citrus oil is actually an effective cat repellant. But mandarin oranges have little if any citrus oil, since they have no peel. I'd bet she likes the sweet sugar syrup they've been cured in.

I have heard that some cats like cantaloupe and never heard about oranges. Fruit is not on any feline danger list like onion, garlic or tomatoes (nightshade family). Cats don't usually take to sweet things as they fewer sugar receptors on their tongues than humans.
I think you are out there in unknown territory with the oranges. Cats don't need supplemental Vitamin C as we do, they can make that in their own bodies from their regular food. I think I would follow the general advice that ANY human food should be given sparingly to cats.

There is nothing wrong with giving your cat some fruit. Full of vitamins and nutrients. My cat loves grapes and pears for some reason. Like everyone else has said; moderation is the key. Just make sure your cat is eating its other food and doesn't become dependent on the fruits or whatever other food you give it. Use it as a special treat.

Cats need vitamin C too. One or 2 segments of mandarin oranges should not hurt your cat. If your cat develops loose stools try cutting him back a little, but as long as his stools look healthy and he gets regular cat food too the fruit will do him good.

Thats cute! Is he an oreintal breed?? J/k... As long as they are packaged in water and not syrup(basically liquid sugar...) then there shouldn't be a problem. Cats bodies aren't desinged to diegest plant matter, so it'll just pass through, they may absorb some of the vitiemins. Most cats stay away from citruis, because they don't like the smell of the rind, but since it's canned they don't get the rind.

Aren't cats funny? Yours will do just fine. keep it in moderation, like you're doing now, and there should be no ill effects.
Chocolate and potatoes, those can cause intestinal distress if your cat is sensitive, or eats a lot of it.
My cat loves apricot nectar from the can. Silly, huh? :)
