Since it's the holiday season, it's a good way to stir up the spirit of giving in others. Why does everything have to be negative or have an ulterior motive behind it? Maybe some people are just giving people. Oprah gives away money and gifts to strangers all the time. The women is a self made billionaire! I'm sure she doesn't need publicity. Self-centered people judge others based on their own bias and selfish agendas.

Oprah has the right to all the sources available on the internet, including Answers. How people react to her right (or any other's celebrity's right), is something they themselves need to deal with.
I never thought to question Oprah's motives (since I thought the question was a decent one). I do wonder if there is a part of her that may take these suggestions (all 32,000plus) and use them in some positive way. Perhaps users will see some good examples that they themselves can apply in their lives.
In the short time I have been on answers - there have been a number of questions from non-celebrities that I have found suspect.
I actually think your question is a good one. This is, in fact, what Yahoo Answers is all about.
Cheers!

I think Oprah is an awesome person who God has blessed because she is kind, generous and very public spirited. If Oprah ran for President, I would be the first to sign up for the local campaign office, even though I have NEVER done that before! She has done things, not just for black people, but ALL PEOPLE, children especially. She has made a point of spreading her money far and wide in an effort to reach as many as possible. Don't be a hater just because she has made something of herself, while you all sat around watching. How many of you have gotten up off your hind end to help anyone but yourselves? Oprah worked her way up the hard way, no one just handed her fame and fortune, she worked for it. So I think her motive is what it has always been, to find new and better ways to make the most effective use of her money as possible, to benefit those less fortunate than others and to make a REAL difference. Does it motivate my greed? Not at all, it motivated my desire to help my own community in some meaningful way. Did I think to spend it on myself? No, because the question was how would I spend on a PERFECT STRANGER. Well, I know who I am, so a stranger to me I am not. Thank for this opportunity to make this challenge.....what are you all doing to help this world? The country you live in? The community you live in? Are you leaving something positive behind or just the imprint of your behind on the couch? Get up off your duff and give something back. This would be a much better place if we all did our part!

I don't think there is any negativity in her question, there thousands of negative questions on yahoo answers but defiantly not from her!
I think she is just trying to open our eyes and actually take a min to think about it. I don't think she is trying to have a selfish motive behind it.
And to whoever said she was insecure and a "publicity hog" if that is so then I hope she continues to be one! Because at least she is talking and working towards all the right cases!
Yet, amazingly Celebrities like Paris Hilton gets more publicity and appreciation, for what? Her human helping causes ? Or just for the fact she has more "Men" checking in and out of her privet bits then her families hotel chains?
Oprah took a stand where no body else did, one of her best episodes was when she announced an award for catching child molesters.....now that is a great woman. And I pray to god that world leaders learn a thing or two from her!

Oprah has the excellent to all the ingredients available on the internet, which incorporate strategies. How human beings react to her precise (or the countless's celebrity's precise), is something they themselves opt to handle. I no longer in any appreciate thought to question Oprah's reasons (because of the fact i presumed the question substitute good right into a superb one). I do ask your self if there is component of her that could opt to take those concepts (all 32,000plus) and use them in some valuable way. according to probability shoppers will see some stable examples that they themselves can prepare of their lives. interior the fast whilst i even have been on strategies - there have been fairly some questions from non-celebrities that i even have have been given right here in the time of suspect. i actually think of your question is a robust one. it relatively is, quite, what Yahoo strategies is all approximately. Cheers!

Oprah is a self made person.. She found and used the talents the good Lord gave to her.. She has been blessed.. She is a giver not a receiver.. In my opinion she probably did this just to see how many people in this world really would love to help other people.. If only one person would help another in time of need. then this world wouldn,t have the poverty it has.. But there is so much greed and self centerness in this world most wealthy people cannot see any furthur than their nose. They think money can buy anything, but money cannot buy their happiness.. but a little of their giving could make many other people happy in their time of need.. Give and you shall receive, love thy neighbor as thyself.. Love and Charity are the first most important rules we are to live by..and if it is n ot in a persons heart when they help anyone, then its all in vain.. God only sees the heart, not the person.. And Oprah has a giving spirit and heart.. Yes, she could have probably offered more.. but why? when even a dollar could tell you a lot about a person weither a persons heart is selfish or giving. I could go on and on about this.. but will sign off.. this is my ans.... ty Mary Firlotte

I don't think Oprah put the question up it was probably her executive producer and it is to advertise her show it even directs you to her webpage so you can look at the show etc. She (her production team) might use some of the answers as ideas for new shows maybe someone says I would help my mom cause she has no legs and can't breath properly but has to work 60 hours a week etc and then they would find out who that is and invite them on the show. So it is just a business move, advertising, getting fresh stories for the show etc. She is a business woman thats what she does thats why she is a billionaire because she comes up with a cheap and effective way of advertising and creating shows.

I feel that her motives are pure of heart. She is not one who flaunts her wealth. She wants people no matter what color, religion, nationality. She wants people to look at each other as humans not just objects. Does it really matter how much money one has. What should matter is how can you help some one who does not have enough. Remember Jesus had nothing and yet He gave everything he had to help others. So what does it matter what she has or why she does it. If she could help all I feel that she would. But she does not have that power only God and his Son does. So maybe we should look at our selves and see what we can do to help others. Cause Remember "Do onto others as you would have done unto you" Give alittle what can it hurt.

Maybe she has no "motive" and is perhaps planning to use the responses she gets here to fuel a series on her show. People have two sides: the one that wants to give and the one that wants everything for themselves.

I don't think the questions makes me greedy o selfish at all! I think there is a possibility that Oprah might choose some good ones and actualy give them $1,000 to work out their plan.... or she might discuss what people would do on her show... and do it herself-- who knows, but I love Oprah!
